I would try to stain the forearm to match the pistol grip if it’s real wood
If it’s not real wood then I would research what it would take to make it match.

They're both made a walnut and definitely I intend to finish it and varnish it but I'm not satisfied with the shape of the form yet

A lot of detailed wood work but it could be cut down and sanded to match the original look. Hopefully you’re talented with a Dremel or know a woodworker who is

When I first saw the picture I made a rush to judgement and preferred the bottom one. Nothing scientific just a cosmetic preference. I've come back and warmed to the top. They have different applications. The top can benefit from the larger stock because of the scope. You're more inclined to use two hands with a scope IMO. The bottom although good fixed sights you might shoot one handed IMO. If I had two I wouldn't want them identical. But that's just me.

I would make the forearm thinner taking some off the top and a lot off the bottom. I like the length.
