Now to figure out what to use on the stock.
I really want it darker and a bit of red. I know I can just stain the wood whatever color I want, but I’m trying not to if possible. I’ve never done this before so everything I’ve read on the internet is great and all but until I’m hands deep in it none of it matters. I don't need it done quickly so if you have a method that’s good but tedious I’m ok with that. Thank You! JR

If it was mine. I'd put some simple Marine Spar varnish on it. It resists UV damage longer and won't yellow as bad as other oil based finishes. Few coats of that will shine it up nice. You can get it tinted a little... or stain it prior according to how ya want it to look. Use some scraps u have left over from same board the stock came from to test the tones. They have it in various sheens also. Then once done maybe wax it good. The guy from Midway I think does a good YouTube video on the benefits of wax on wood gunstocks that's worth a watch.
