I absolutely love hunting with old guns I’ve worked on. I have a sxs 12 gauge “SPORTMANS CLEVELAND” made in 1906. I’ve tightened up the lock and breech on it, so it’s tight. I’ve shot it with some black powder shells I loaded but I want to load some low pressure smokeless loads. It has a 2 3/4 chamber and I want to proof the barrels. My question is….If i proof the barrels with a modern 9,000 psi load and it passes….does the proofing itself weaken the steel? I hope that makes since. It’s Armor steel, not Damascus.
