First time I've seen one marked 1x8. This may help identify it.
    Always 1:8 or 1/8 or 1-8.
    16 inch
    M4
    Appears to be nitride finish
Was told it was a colt government issued barrel
My eyes are terrible but looks like it's chrome lined

Hard to know who's barrel it is. From the markings and profile, it looks to be a 16" carbine-length 5.56 NATO chambered with a 1/8 twist and A2 profile. It also appears to be nitride treated. Not a government issued barrel. If it is nitride finished, it would most likely not be chrome-lined.

I can't get a picture but with a flashlight it appears there is a sleeve inside the barrel. Brighter than the finish on the barrel

Don’t know if it will help, but the only companies that I know of that ever say 1x8 instead of 1:8, 1/8 or 1-8 are del-ton and Dayton tactical. Never owned either so couldn’t say much after. I’d assume neither are the barrel maker anyways.

I know that Faxon has a barrel with the same finish, same profile, and 1/8 twist rate, but theirs is clearly marked with their logo and the markings are in different areas.

To me 5.56 NATO and 8 twist don't add up.
The 8 twist is fairly common with the Wylde chambers. Never seen a 223Rem or a 5.56 X 45 with a 8 twist bbl.
Frankly, never seen a bbl with any twist rate marked as yours. But been out of the bbl "bidness" for some time now.
Possibly Bruce would know. --- SAWMAN

It is odd to pair a 1/8 twist barrel with a 5.56 chamber, but not totally uncommon. The vast majority of companies do not do that. 1/8 twist does give an individual the opportunity to use a wider range of ammo and is a compromise between the 1/7 and 1/9 twist rate. Usually, a 1/8 twist barrel is used with a .223 Wylde chamber as you stated. This is usually done for accuracy purposes. Other than the 5.56 chamber and 1/8 barrel combo, the other thing that makes very little sense is the carbine gas system. Most 1/8 twist barrels have at least a mid-length gas system, in some cases a rifle-length gas system, and are usually 16" to 18" in length. Personally, I would never buy or recommend anyone to buy a barrel like this.

Actually my first S&W M&P-15 Sport I had a 1/8 twist 5.56 chamber and carbine gas system. They later switched to 1/9 with the M&P-15 Sport II.

I remember when these came out. I was scratching my head as to why they did that combo. It may have been that they had a supplier that had these readily available and were a bargain. Who knows? 1/9 twist barrels with 5.56 chambers were, and are, more common as more companies are making them. Of course, most people these days are wanting 5.56 chambers and 1/7 twist barrels for their carbine builds. For precision ARs, 1/7 and 1/8 twist 16"-20" barrels are the norm as they are generally using heavier 5.56 and/or .223REM ammo (62gr.-77gr.) which stabilizes better with those twist rates. These barrels are commonly used in conjunction with .223 Wylde and 5.56 chambers depending on one's preference.

Was hoping to get some closer on this before I list it as a mystery barrel in the sale section.
