Anyone locally shoot Black Powder Cartridge Rifle matches? I just bought a C. Sharps 1874 38-55 and want to learn about shooting and loading for it. I am in Shalimar.

I have shot thousands of rounds of 38-55 what do you need to know? I also have a C Sharps 1874 with bull barrel.

Since I made that post I have aquired a pedersoli 1874 sharps in 40-65 and a Shiloh Sharps 1874 in 45-70. I started shooting with a club that shoots out at Element range the first sunday of the month. I found a load that works pretty well in the 38-55 so I moved on to developing a load/bullet combo for the 40-65. Haven't even shot the 45-70 yet. Could use some advice on figuring out and developing a load.

1.5 Swiss cartridge powder or if you want to shoot smokeless 5744 powder always worked good for me.

I am shooting strictly black powder and use 1.5 swiss. I am struggling with understanding how much powder and compression to use. Have kind of set it aside right now because I have to concentrate on other things for another few weeks.
