Howdy fellas. I recently picked up a lovely Saiga 308 from another fine member here. It has been partially converted and needs a front sight. The seller included one, however I didn't realize that the barrel diameter is quite a bit thicker than the FSB included. The barrel has a factory reduced section for the FSB of .635 inches in diameter. Does anyone know of a front sight base with approximately the same internal diameter? The FSB included is a good bit less at .560 inches internally, and wouldn't fit unless the barrel diameter is reduced further.

can you ream out the sight base some instead of the barrel?
The FSB is super thin, so there isn't enough material to remove to fit it. I think this FSB came off a 5.45, so the barrel was way skinner than a 30 cal. Which is a bummer, because it has a cool 24mm flash hider on it.

i might be wrong but I think those saigas have a threaded end? If they do maybe your threads were ground off? just wondering about the lateral lines on it

This one used to be a hunting rifle, so the tip of the barrel is crowned but unthreaded. The ATF definitely saved some lives by not letting the scary imported threaded barrels in.

Look for Romanian RPK FSB, SVD/Dragunov possibly PSL. The Airsoft SVD copies for $20 may work for fitting purposes until you can find the real thing.
Barrel really needs to be turned down to get anything other than the 74 style fsb with integrated threads which all are probably too small in diameter. Could research FSGB and Galil type rear cover with sight and then muzzle could be threaded also for brake.
