Been taking an interest lately in my 6mm x 45mm, I've had it for a long time. Wanted to try the Sierra 90gr TGK's but they are too long so I went with the Nosler 70gr BT's to try. I have several worthy powders but today I tried AA2200 and IMR 8208XBR.

The rifle has an 18" RLG barrel, I just added a Timney trigger and Vortex Viper PST. I forgot my shooting bags but I was able to made due. Set the Chrony up and fired about 15 rounds. The AA2200 turned in good groups with the best at .750" and runs about 2960 FPS. However, I guess the burn rate is off as it won't lock the bolt back (never any cycle issues with this rifle). The 8208XBR runs strong and turned in some good groups considering. Speeds were 2788 FPS and none of the loads showed any signs of pressure despite being close to published max... I have room to go a little hotter.

    The rifle...

    The ammo...

    Best 5-round groups...

Of course the best test of all is on game so on the way home I stopped off at the ranch knowing I could easily find a hog. Shot this sow at about 80 yards, she never knew what hit her.

Is that a .243 ish round?? Best test is on live game. Love the odg. I bet adding a Flaming Pig on the rifle it will work without fooling with anything.
    It's a 223 case necked up to 6 MM.it retains the 223's 23* shoulder. the TCU cases 6, 6.5 & 7 all have a 40* shoulders.
The 6x45 gained a little fame in national match match's before the bullet manufactures saw a market for higher BC .224 bullets, and the starting trend of NM shooters switching from 308's to 223 rounds.
End of a way back time machine moment

Thats cool. I need to get an AR and I’d like a 300BO and a 6x45.

I got the barrel used off ARFCOM some years back and slapped the upper together myself.

The barrel was made by the no longer in business AR15Barrels.com
    Thanks.

I had one in a bolt gun that I built 25 or so years ago. Shot the barrel out about 16 yrs ago, screwed the original barrel back on it and sold it... Should have just bought a new 6MM blank and chambered a new one but didn't like the price of the reamer....

Please understand,I am a fan of all the "different" chamberings.
My application for this chambering would be hogs and deer using hand loaded <76gr bullets.
But just gotta wonder - -> over all, better or worse than the proven 6.5G,7.62X39,and my proven killer,6.8SPCII. ??
ESPECIALLY - -> after you frig with brass prep.
I would also take a close look at the 7mm version of the X45.
Just one persons opinion. --- SAWMAN

It would be a very capable coyote rig as well, with <70gr bullets, I would think.

Much has been written over the years about the 6x45.
