Well, after a slow archery season, mainly due to me being not motivated/lazy, it feels good to put one down. Been just seeing Doe for the first hunts, I decided to try my new shooting house out, new as in just put it up Wednesday night. At 4 pm I was rewarded with 3 racked bucks stepping out at 200 yrds. A 7, 6, and a 4 point. Unsure of the bullet drop, I held to the first mil dot and let the 6.8 get some. He ran out of sight as my shooting lane is only about 15' wide and the others just stood there. I found no blood on impact, but picked it up shortly there after. Deer ran about 30 yrds and piled up. Hornady 120 sst did a good job on him. Hope the picture comes through.

the 6.8 is a most capable rd, I think 6 of us use it for hogs and deer on our lease. the 120SST is devastating, I also use the SSA Barnes 110 TSX. When sighted in at 50 yds the Hornady out of my 16" barrel has a 3" drop. Congrats

I killed a 90lb doe with mine opening day. She was standing broadside at 110yds. I was shooting a 85gr Barnes TSX at 3000fps. The bullet struck her mid/high chest. She staggered upon impact and wobbled off 15yds and fell over dead. The bullet exited the far side leaving a 2 1/2 inch round hole. The top of the heart was gone and both lungs were mush.

Congratz on the kill. For me....doe tag gone--meat in freezer--now time for a buck. --- SAWMAN

Thanks guys, I have a stock pile of 120's, so I'll be using them for awhile. Going to start a left handed 6.8 for my youngest son in the spring. I'll be looking into a lighter bullet for him so it's easier on his shoulder.

Frank got his Barnes 110gr TSX from Silver State Armory. Unknown where he got the 120SST's.

Take a look at the 85's....with the right brake(NOT flash hider), my precieved recoil is not that much more than a stout loaded 223Rem. (REALLY !!)--- SAWMAN

Bailey, I got some of the 110 from SSA and some from JoeBob(free shipping) The case i got of 120's I think I got from Palmetto State Armory during a free shipping or a $14 shipping at $18 a bx. Now if I see free shipping I buy more ammo, other wise I got what I need!

    Congrats!

Do these 6.8 rounds usually exit the deer? I would not have guessed that they had the power to. I am impressed.

I have shot deer with 270 and they did not exit guess it is all about bullet selection.

Joe the 6,8 is 70% of a 308. My SSA Barnes 110TSX has 22" penetration in ballistic gel. Almost every 6.8 bullet choice has been specifically designed for combat or hunting.

Mine went in a bit high and behind the shoulder and since I was elevated it shattered the spine and went down through the lung and exited with about a 2-2.5in hole. Dropped a 140-150lb hog in its tracks.
