5.45 x39 - opionions

Have a lower sitting around and saw this upper in stock. What is the outlook for availability of ths caliber? I saw some bulk ammo available for .20 cents a round. Are mags easily available? Thinking it may be a good option for cheap practice on the AR platform.

I have been considering an upper in this because, from what I've read, you can use 5.56 mags and only load around 27 rounds with perfect functionality. The ammo is cheap and from what I have seen it's still readily available.

They are ok , the primers are hard in surplus 5.45 and require extra power hammer springs, feed lips need adjusting for ammo in mags and followers may or may not line up last few rounds. Check current ammo prices also might rethink.
