Wondering if anyone here has any experience using .30 Carbine, particularly an M1 Carbine, on hogs or deer. How'd it work for you? What were the ranges? What bullet did you use? Shot placement? Did they drop or did they run? Pass through?

I'm not looking for anything theoretical, more looking for actual experience.

I am curious to the responses as well. I have a safe Queen M1 Carbine that I will never hunt with but I would not for one minute doubt its capabilities. I would think good shot placement anything under 100 yards would be a kill and if I had a scope I would probably extend that to 200 yards.

Only kills I know with 30 carbine are:
1)My Uncle Bill made a great shot on Guadalcanal with his Inland carbine. He stated he paced it out afterwards at 150 yds.
    2) I shot rats at the dump in the early 60s, ball ammunition at 50 yds or less. Uncle’s carbine has seen lots of safe time since.

Personally, I think bigger bullets are better. IMHO

I bought a commercial M1 carbine once from an older lady. She shot and killed several deer with it using the 110 grain soft points.

Then it popped a case out in a high arc and the hot brass ended up in her bra. She sold it soon after!

I explored the same idea. Bullet choices are the issue. Went to 10mm for the same type of hunting ( light weight carbine) 10mm bonded hp from a rifle barrel works great.
