    Would it be safe to use 5.56 brass for .223, as long as I keep pressure below the .223 max?

    Most , most accurate loads are below the listed book MAX. But to answer your question , yes. Plus if you are reloading for a bolt action , you can increase your loaded rounds OAL to what your rifle's Mag. will allow, or longer if you single load a round.

    Thanks. Most of my accurate loads I have found so far are around the halfway point. Looking at a .223, but I mostly have 5.56 brass. That's why I asked

    Probably stating the obvious , but when you start giving your 223 some legs you will want to pick out enough cases with the same head stamp.

    Yes. Have done it for decades. For my precision reloads I use the same head stamp brass. For plinking it doesn’t matter.
