What happens if there're more than one perp? I prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I carry a full mag and one in chamber total 16. I always carry the same weapon, always. My little pea brain doesn't like to think about what are the differences between what I carried yesterday and what I'm carrying today. I should get in the habit of carrying another full magazine. I've not found a mag holster I like or tried for that matter. Maybe weight for some is an issue. It's not for me.

Like pretty much everything, EDC is an exercise in compromise. If I was "prepared for the worst" like BluesBrother said, I would have my wraparound 3A Kevlar with multi hit 5.56 green tip rated plates front and back, my helmet, 150 round loadout for my rifle, 69 round loadout for my handgun, knee pads, hydration, IFAK, and my radio.

I suppose I could walk around town like that for a bit, but eventually I would get in trouble with my bosses and end up poking holes in my vehicle's upholstery.

I carry a handgun with one reload (which one depends on where I'm going), a swiss army knife, my ID, keys, and a phone. I have a better-than-average first aid kit in the truck along with a ballistic vest and that's pretty much it.

I have always said that the mood on most forums seems to be "Anyone less prepared than I am is a sheep and anyone more prepared than I am is paranoid." This forum is certainly better than most, though! The conversations tend to be fairly civil.

well said. EDC is a very different need for everybody. not gonna lie, road trips are a VERY different load out for me. full size pistol, carbine of some sort, 3-5 spare mags for everything, lvl3a soft armor, hand held flashlights and a very complete ifak/gstk, tourniquets, (which i don't think anyone has mentioned yet for EDC) and other kit... slightly paranoid? you bet. prepaired? i hope so... train hard as often as you can is the best way to survive.

Did he have to fight off a mob with a firearm? I’ve been around a few big mobs when bullets starred flying and universally the mob suddenly realized they had pressing business elsewhere.

Of course there will be a distinction between an angry mob that gets a case of the bloodlust (usually undisciplined and easily scared off) and a disciplined group with a plan and an objective. You square off against the second group by yourself and any ammo you have should be used to break contact!
Most likely more than 4 -5 guys , mob might have been the wrong word to use but 4-5 wanting to do you in is to many

Question, do you carry a long gun in your truck?

I’m thinking about putting together a “get home bag” with more stuff than my EDC. I already have a FAK in my truck with chest seals and some other non-typical stuff, but thinking of making a “3 day” type survival pack and am thinking of a takedown PCC type carbine for it rather than another handgun.

Excellent idea. I do have a bag for this. I'll be bugging in, not out. All my stuff is at the house and thats where all plans start out from. Be overly prepared and if nothing goes down, all the better...

Fully agree on keeping the EDC the same, I carry a 17 round mag with one in the chamber and a spare 17 round mag in my backpack which is never very far away. I want to be the most comfortable and accurate with the one I carry every day.

    What's that Bruce Lee saying?

I don't fear the guy that practices 10,000 kicks once, I fear the guy that practices one kick 10,000 times.

On rare occasions I do, but I usually take my Mustang if I feel the need for a long gun because I recognize the chances of my truck being broken into are much higher than me needing a rifle in a hurry. I don't have any way to really secure gear like that in my truck and important stuff like that lying about on the floorboard and back seat make me much more nervous than not having a rifle.

I have always liked the idea of a PCC with mag interchangeability with my handgun as a truck gun or in a get home bag. It keeps things simple, and if you are just planning on getting back to base a PCC should be plenty.

When I started carrying a single stack 45 and one mag was enough.

Working in law enforcement after leaving the military I gained a different perspective. Now I believe the most common situations encountered, and technological improvements in ammo, have changed enough that I prefer to carry the smallest 9mm semi-auto that I can shoot well, and two mags in reserve.

For a dash to the grocery, I will slip a little 32 in my pocket, loaded with 8 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense.

When traveling on road trips I like to have both of those, along with my house pistol (bedside pistol) and some long gun. I started with PCC rifle in same caliber, experimented with AR pistol, and now find I am more focusing on having additional ammo while on the road over matching calibers.

Any travel requires checking the laws of all states being traveled through and making sure nothing I carry will be likely to cause problems if stopped or in an accident. Even the pocket knives I carry as EDC have to change or be locked away as passing through different states. By the time we get to NOVA (Northern VA) where one son resides, for a blade I am down to a small pen knife (SAK) that gets left at home when going to events at grandkids schools.

Now that I am showing more age, I will likely throw in a cane for those times I can carry nothing.

Message if any additional info desired, I do not care to go too deep in an open forum.

I just recently started carrying a 2nd mag. Unfortunately i don't have the ability to train for the sympathetic nervous system. Trying to shoot with epinephrine and norepinephrine coursing through you body just from hunting with a rifle from a stationary position can be tough. Now add a pistol with moving target, with a less lethal round then your standard rifle cartridge. I will take all the help i can get.

My daily carry was an S&W shield, 8 round mag, night sights. I am now breaking in an Sig 365 X Macro. 17 rd mag, red dot and night sights. Double the ammo capacity, barely any bigger and faster target acquisition and follow up. These new compact nines are amazing. When traveling I keep a 10.3in 300Blk AR pistol with a law tactical folder and dolos barrel adapter. It will break down to fit in the center console or fit under the seat with the stock folded. If I run into an issue 90 rounds of 300 blk won’t resolve I am truly in a world of hurt. Great comments on the IFAK and tourniquets. I need to pick up a few more tourniquets for the travel kit.

For those of you who haven't found a good way to carry a reload, check out reloadwrap.com if you haven't. Cheap, can be adjusted to any size, and you carry the magazine in your pocket, concealed but always indexed in the same place. Believe they have something for speed loaders as well. Added bonuse If you're used to reloading from a belt mag holster at the range/shooting competition its easy to get used to reaching a little lower.

I carry a 356xl, 12+1 with a 15 rounder in an appendix carry rig during the summer or if I'm in light clothes.

During the winter wearing bulkier clothing/when I need a flashlight, I switch the frame to a macro that's got a TLR-7a on it. 17+ 1 and spare 17

I personally find an appendix rig balances better and is somehow more comfortable for me than just a standalone appendix/4 o'clock holster. The reloads mainly for malfunctions. While I most likely will never need a gun much less 35 rounds, I'm also 6'4" and in decent shape so the law expects me to handle an unarmed assailant with my hands. So if it's multiple unarmed assailants or someone with a weapon not trained on me, higher capacity makes sense. Plus the guns single stack width so not giving up concealability.

I keep a sound bite of a shotgun being racked queued up on my phone and figure that's all I need!! :D

Great thread - love hearing everyone's take on this.

"It depends" and "it's all a compromise" all ring true for me. I used to carry 5, then 7. My wife and I had a sketch encounter in the Sipsey Wilderness with multiple people that had me wishing for more than the 7 I was carrying. Now I carry 12+1 and I'm looking at getting an appendix rigs that holds an extra mag.
