I think we should be able to open carry and then have the sense not to, or do so after considering the time and place. And, I think we can all agree that the young men who decide to use their right to open carry by toting AR’s through a toy store for a YouTube stunt aren’t doing us any favors politically.
I recognize it’s a debate, and everyone has their opinions on it, but my mindset is to prepare for a trained, committed adversary. Open carry can have a deterrent effect on low level bad guys, but I don’t like tipping my hand to someone who now knows to take me out first before I can become a threat to their plans.
Not to say there isn’t a time and place for it, but they seem few and far between for an average city dweller to me.

The only time I open carry is when on the tractor, four wheeler or walking through the woods or around my pond, just mainly out in the rural landscape. Just for snakes and predators. I do support open carry out in the public for those that want to exercise their 2nd amendment rights and have absolutely no problem with it. I just rather carry concealed for the element of surprise if I needed to use it. Once I walked in to a convenience store on my way back home from deer hunting one morning and forgot I still had my handgun in the holster on my hip, I was at the counter paying for a drink and a snack when an elderly lady questioned me about the pistol and wanted to know if I was a policeman and I told her no ma’am I’m not and she told me I was breaking the law and could be in serious trouble and she was horrified that I would pull a stunt like that. I think she was just trying to make a scene as a few other people in the store wasn’t concerned. I remember telling the lady that she should rest at ease cause if I was a threat I wouldn’t be paying for the coke and the pack of cheese crackers. Thats why I had rather carry concealed, I don’t like the attention.

I love shoulder and chest carry. For me and my lifestyle it works better. It's nice that here in Alabama we can have choices. If going to town, I'll throw on a light jacket if not 98 degs.

Also if your gonna carry open, get a decent holster. Don't use one of those crappy, floppy generic nylon holsters from India or airsoft.com with the cheap belt spring clip. If you must use it, make damm sure you have a drop safe pistol, cause you will need it. You may get custom stippling on your carry and your rear. Ymmv

Prior to moving to FL I lived in a Constitutional Carry state. Surprisingly very few people open carried there. Of course you would see people here and there open carrying but it really was not that many. Not once did I ever see anyone open carrying draw extra attention from others. People were just used to it and no one ever made an issue of someone open carrying.
Personally, I preferred to conceal carry when out in public. Always thought the element of surprise was to my benefit in a self defense encounter and drawing from concealment is not an issue for me. When on my property or otherwise out in the woods I would open carry as I was usually carrying a full size pistol then. But that was just my preference. For those that want to open carry all the time, I fully support it and believe that is their right by the second amendment. I would like to see Florida revisit the CC law, but that does not seem likely in the short term.

Open carry for me would just be another thing to contend with regarding weapon retention , at 70 years old i do not want to go hands on with a crackhead /hoodrat going after my shiny SS python but i would not oppose the law to allow open carry .

Sounds dope. When you have time, I'd like to see a pic of it. Sounds like a comfortable way to carry in the post apocalypse during long motorcycle rides with your team of raiders.

wife has to fine tune hers to fit her shortness but i think i got mine in the ball park [not field tested yet] the AK hangs down from the butt stock and the pistol grip is right even with my hand ,weapon comes up to shoulder without any interference to sights and magazine changes . Another sling is Rhodesian that she mended to fit, i have to shoot lefty because of my eye sight
For all the concealed carry only gun owners and unconcerned with the change to open carry. If you conceal carry you are one zealous cop's bad attitude from arrest. With open carry you are immune to the an unlawful police action.
