At least 6 Pounds of smokeless powder supposedly blows up a house while reloading small arms ammo. I wonder what he was really making to cause this to happen

static elec. to the primer tube can ignite a stack of primers and can start a chain reaction of bad stuff in the reloading room. Its a good idea to ground your press.

The smokeless powder I use will not explode unless it is in a confined container of some sort , like a cartridge case. In the container it’s shipped in it will burn rapidly, but it won’t build up enough pressure to explode. There’s more to this story than is being reported.

I guess anything is possible, but in the fifty years or so I’ve been involved in reloading I’ve never seen anyone that had a ground wire on their press. I have seen primer tubes that exploded but the exploding primes didn’t cause any powder to explode. I don’t think we are getting the true story here .

I agree with you on the content of the story. I am merely stating the possible source of ignition which could start off a chain reaction inside the room.

In this case, it appears that the reloading room was a confined container with a lot of powder in it.

this is 100% correct.... no pressure build up = no boom... I'll dig up a vid of me disposing of 8lb of 4064 in the street that burns sloooooow without any confinement pressure buildup... white hot but slow..

now meth on the other hand...... more to the story than simple reloading supplies..

Hard to believe it would go boom not confined but the impossible is always proven somehow.

I think it is mostly with a motor drive. I have seen it twice this past year. Once on the press and once in the Auto Filler tube when it touched the top of the primer feed tube. The Mark 7 and the 1050 are on a steel plate attached to a stainless table sitting on the concrete floor.
