Doomsday Preppers

Anyone else watch this show? We watch it while working and it is interesting to see what people are doing to prepare for some type of disaster. Some people are idiots, but a few have some really good plans in place and whatnot.

Do you think there will be something that happens like this in our lifetime? If so, what are you most afraid of and what would you basic plan be?

Id like to be herded into a FEMA camp when martial law is declared, where i can live in superdome "hell" like conditions until i am finally neutralized like all of the other useless souls who believe the gov. cares about them.

I watch every episode I can. I feel most featured are extremists living in an altered sense of reality, sadly in a constant state of fear and sense of readiness that interferes with their ability to enjoy life, hold jobs or maintain relationships due to the looming 'doom' that is just moments away, in their opinions. I think that right at this very moment, people are acting out their emergency plans following the re-election of Obama, convinced the world is coming to an end and building their proverbial bunker, deeper and deeper out of society's mainstream. Perhaps they will pop their heads up in a few months, but coupled with the Mayan prophecy, the re-election could be perceived as the 'beginning' of the end. I will not hole-up in my house and pretend I'm defending the Alamo as many prepare to do. I will head into the hills, take basic supplies, tools, medications, etc.. and like our forefathers before us, I will scratch out a new existence with my family one day at a time. Who knows what will happen, I'm not sold either way, but I did just received 2000 rounds of ammo in the mail today, I have bug out bags and plans for heading to the mountains and I think being prepared is one thing with a proper appreciation for the NOW and understanding that if the SHTF, scavenging and taking along the way is how most will survive.

Learned a lot of little things from the show.....the most important, to value my children, my wife and my life.

Get out of town, you cannot defend your home, your deer lease should give you cover and food to eat, you know the area and should be able to defend it for awhile without people bothering you. I am gonna follow Sawman around till he drops then figure the rest out!

I love the idea of head to the mountains and hunt/forage for food but...... from what I understand, in a nationwide catastrophe, most wildlife would be hunted to extinction within a few months. Read "One Second After" if you want to see the most accurate view of a survival situation. Pretty damn sobering. Covers a lot of things most people do not even consider.

Bret, I would not stay to be a victim so our lease is a compound and would be defended along w the game, we are not foraging but have dwellings and enough armed people for a small militia, maybe all deer leases are not as prepared. Some actually live next to the lease so it is a bit different.

The books catastrophe involves an EM pulse that wipes out the majority of solid state technology. (Kind of like a "Revolutions" scenario). In that case, your deer lease would have to be capable of preserving game and food without the benefit of refrigeration. So you would need a good supply of salt/sugar etc. You would need a huge amount of land to sustain a group of any size plus it would be exceptionally difficult to patrol an area that size to prevent poaching and as the days/months progressed and rationing became an issue, members would hardly be fit enough to patrol let alone hunt. Can't really rely on game now days in a survival situation no matter what the size of a lease. You would be far better stocking long term provisions in your compound beforehand and use game to supplement it as long as the game lasts. About the only thing a remote compound offers is seclusion from roaming looters.

I watched this show today and it featured the most annoying girl I have ever seen anywhere, ever. Her name was Megan, I believe, and she seemed like a total attention whore. Thanks to her I will never watch that show again. Also, she claimed she works out six hours a day but it was very clear she does not. People like her will be killed and looted early on in a real anarchy type situation.

Great concept u got there Clay(AkA mind fuck) but my family would kill u if u touched me. U have never met children as dangerous as mine! My boys would cut your heart out just to have a hacky sack and my ole lady looks sweet and is to me but Is as dedicated as they come and very well trained so I would recommend killing all of us if ur gonna try 1.Happy hunting

I've seen 4 episodes and she was by far the most annoying. As soon as she said she worked out 4 hours a day/6days a week I was like, 'I'm fkn sure! There is NO way!'
She was gives herself like 6 weeks, months or something before she has to start whoring her self out.

You should give it another go...
