the great caliber debate is over. ALL handgun calibers are pretty bad but .40 has a much snappier recoil impulse. as usual when the FBI switched over to 9mm, so did most police departments. when that happens, civilians seem to think the fed bois and LEOs are some kind of experts and they tend to follow trends. 9mm is cheaper usually, widely available, guns generally hold more boolits and the recoil is less. just my 2 cents tho as i'm no expert either... i'l wait for @Rebel_Rider1969 to start with the .45acp is better, 2 world wars comments any second... ;)
Yep. You right on with it. And the .45 comment! :)

Call me old fashioned, I have many caliber pistols, and rifles, of course my go to SHTF long gun is .556 or 7.62, and pistol I would 9 times out of 10 grab would be .9mm. But I have never been the latest and greatest guy. I know LOTS of folks that are, and then I see them sell their latest and greatest caliber 6 months later. .270, 30.06, .308, .357, .38, .9mm, .243,.22, have been putting men and animals down for DECADES, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

I have a G23 and first thing I did was buy a .9mm barrel for it. Just never been a fan. I like I now have the opportunity to fire multiple calibers but never been a .40 fan.
Bought a G22 and did the exact same thing.

I've been seeing a ton of veteran run podcast clips w/ SEALs, and etc about 9mm being an "objectively" better choice compared to .40 (based on, obviously, the views of pretty impressive military careers and incredible engaging anecdote).

I was carrying a .357 sig, but converted my G33 over to a G26 when I found a 9mm with slide with an RMR cut at a decent price.

9mm ammo is much cheaper and I got some good deals on a case each of Federal standard and +P+ ammo.
Around my place I am carrying a reliable polymer stainless steel non-glock in 9mm. Around my little estate I soon will be carrying a G22 with holosun EPS optic on it in 40 cal mainly because of the wildlife. I figure a heavily loaded 40 will give me more of an edge if I have to deal with a hog or black bear. The black bears in my area are becoming a little too bold for my taste and if my dogs get into it with one, I prefer a 40 if I do not have time to get to a shotgun.
The below happened not far from where I live. The bear is showing no fear of the man or his yorkie. If a 10mm is ok for grizzly, than a heavily loaded 40 should be ok for blackbear.

Might have been the gun , but was once issue a Beretta 40 cal as a duty weapon. And it was the least accurate handgun I ever used . It did not group , it patterned. Lol
Idk man, but a 9mm m9 can shoot surprisingly well. At speed, and at range slow fire.
Could be a number of things, but every 9mm beretta I’ve fired was more accurate than the shooters that handled them.

Um, a 9mm, much less a .40 or 10mm seems a TAD excessive if you already have a Yorkie ;)

Took me a moment to figure out lol. I have three southern white english bulldogs that are a tad bigger than a yorkie: wt from 65 to 100 lbs, but still not a good match for a mature black bear.

I bought a S&W Sigma .40 back in the 1990’s…my first “new” handgun. I’ve put close to 1,000 rds through it, even with its heavy trigger, I’m use to it muscle memory wise and keep it loaded and ready even though I have a platoon of 9mm’s available (at home). The Sigma was the S&W answer to the Glock and at the time a hundred dollars cheaper.
