Picked up a Savage Axis used on here a couple months ago and been playing with it. Jb welded the fore end and trigger guard to stiffen the stock. Then played with the load on a 147 ELDM.

Shot this today with the high impact being the clean, cold bore shot, and the other 4 going just about .450 MOA.

Stretched it out to the big end at Element hitting the 10" plate at 1060 yards according to my rangefinder. Best $200 I have ever spent on a gun.

Sometimes. I've had three Savages that were lemons from the factory. Two brand new that wouldn't cycle and one WW2 Enfield trainer with a blem chamber and inoperable extractor. The Savage Axis model (seen here) is an exception. The Savage I had that worked well was a 300 Win Mag and also like $200 used and also shot circles around the competition. Mine did not have an Accustock or Accutrigger and was just fine without them

This one doesn't have the Accu trigger. I did break the glue on the spring, screwing it in 2 1/2 turns to get a lighter trigger pull.

The chamber is throated long and I am seating these about 2.905 OAL. Around .020" off the lands from where I originally measured.

I got rings ordered for the new .308, a sunshade and caps.

I also ordered a Quick Change Top for my Redding T-7 and the flush mount Quick Change bottom and spacer from In-Line Fab. Might be easier to use the swager and other items from the low position and it will give me another location to use presses simultaneous if someone else is working too

Picked up a true classic at an estate sale today for $500, a Sig P239 Tactical. I have run an across a couple of 239s over the years, most are well used and never seen a tactical version and a German made on to boot. Had a grab it at that price.

Trying to figure out what this stock fits. Seems like I remember seeing the style be for that has the small pegs that fit into receiver. One hole to join tangs and no wood screw holes anywhere. Steel buttplate and grip cap with engraving on screws. Probably turn of the century Euro but not sure. Double or O/U.

    It started like this

    IMG_1600.jpg

I thought that I would strip it to check what was underneath
The first thing I did was remove the recoil pad so nothing would happen to it.
Top screw came out fine but I couldn't get the bottom out...it seemed loose but the pad wouldn't pull away. I decided to take it to my buddy's yesterday to help me figure out sup.

We finally decided the bottom screw was stripped in the stock. We decided to use a double ended blade from a utility knife to gently tap between the pad backing plate and the stock. We got it in both ends but it was still being difficult. We could see the sides came loose but the ends were still attached. We kept at it and it came off.

It appeared it had been glued on with what looked like Super Glue. So naturally it damaged the stock as well as the backing plate for the pad. Sorry I didn't think to snap a few while we worked. We resurfaced the face of the stock and the recoil pad to remove the damaged area.

    IMG_1642.jpg
The stock cleaned up pretty good (took of about 1/16") on the table top belt sander except for those few pits and I think that I think will be fine. The recoil pad didn't clean up as well and was cracked in a few spots.
    IMG_1644.jpg

I am going to use this to attempt to repair the pad and fill the voids. I'll put some release agent on some tin so it come off easy and try to reshape it when the epoxy dries

    IMG_1643.jpg

If not I will replace it. I am going to dowel the bottom hole with a maple golf tee and wait for the glue to dry, pilot drill it, thread it and them put a couple drops of thin super glue in the threads (helicoil if you will) and that should make the repair pretty hard and we should be back in bidnees

Got the paint off of the action but the stock is going to take a good bit of work it seems

Ran a box of 50 through my classic Sig P239 Tactical I just picked up and was very pleased with the results for the first time shooting it, this is a nice shooting pistol.

Since I had an excess (3k) of Remington 6 1/2 primers (small rifle designed for lower pressure rifle rounds like 22 Hornet), left over from my friend's reloading stuff for sale, I had bought them. I use them in low pressure 300 BLK rounds and 30 carbine with normal results and no pierced primers. Loaded up 12 rounds of 38 special wadcutter rounds to test to see if they shot as well as standard small pistol primers and to see if my S&W Model 15 had enough hammer oomph to set them off.

While they all went bang, the accuracy with a wadcutter load that I've used for decades (3.0gr Bullseye) and shoots OK in every gun tried over the years SUCKED. Groups at 30yd hit about 3" higher and was about 3 times the size of my normal groups. I've never seen such a difference exhibited by primers before. To make sure I wasn't just having a bad day, I shot my normal wadcutter small pistol primer loads with both swaged lead and copper plated HBWC...on target and grouping normal. Oh well, at least I can continue to use them in the rifles.

Got a blackhawk thigh holster. Why? Because I bidded on it and won, lol. Oops. I'm sure I can use it for something. Came with 2 g19 holsters. Tan kydex is marked made in Mexico. Mystery to figure out. View attachment 227474
