A SHTF scenario - say a massive loss of power, emp, some national emergency.

Let’s just assume no utilities for a month. Half the population would be about dead. Cities would be in complete disaster.

Not necessary, just look at the things that were most valuable during the collapse of the soviet union, or the starving times in the 50s, or in the Balkans during the dissolution of Yugoslavia.

I sold gold to a shop this past week and got almost $300 for it. As long as somebody's buying I don't care what anybody else has to say about it

Yep I got that one. It's a good read. The second book in the series, not so much. Haven't found the third one yet. I heard he's coming out with a fourth now too

Can't forget how during the Yugoslav conflict it was a can of corned beef hash would buy you an all nighter with a hot young thing. Oh and more recently a few years ago when the Greek currency collapsed plenty of Greek college girls would do anything you asked for a cheeseburger. On record. Historical fact. Food as currency because of real tangible value
