A release of anything like that requires FAA Approval. In all my years in the military (Aviation) and as a HAM Radio Operator, I've never seen anything of that size relate to an Amateur Radio Event.

I going to guess Ham radio released balloon but we will see.

I can show you pictures of the same balloons we released clear back in the 90's. Exactly the same at 80,000 feet. We chased-tracked one for 20 hours 200 miles.

It is laughable to think anyone currently in a leadership position in the USAF has the mental fortitude to do something like that. The are 9u$$ie$ of the greatest magnitude available.

Unless there is a USAF manual in triplicate approved by the CMSgt with a Glowie belt on, not on a family day, not on a leadership retreat, and not prevented by Level 69 COVID protection, they'll spend 3 weeks talking about it before disapproving a reasonable request. Shooting down a foreign object? That would take them 179 days TAD to the Pentagon to wargame and then decide not worth it, while collecting full per diem.
