Here's a video that I'll put you at ease.
I bet they could spend one day in Chicago and get a bunch of illegal guns and felons that are totin' em.
    https://www.gunsamerica.com/digest/...e-your-guns-atf-surprises-firearm-inspection/ I'm

Be an informed citizen--ask to see the search warrant--signed by a federal judge or magistrate. IF they produce one--READ IT. Make sure it actually applies to you/your property. No warrant-then you decide if and whether to cooperate.

See also the related link in story. Owning a LEGAL suppressor does not allow a warrantless search. If you've bought a bunch of "solvent traps", they're going to have a warrant and will gladly show it to you.

Here's an example of how it all goes sideways.

You have a couple of ARs out for cleaning--a rifle and a perfectly legal pistol. The rifle has a QD vertical foregrip, which you took off and put down next to the pistol to, say, remove the barrel on the rifle. Doorbell rings, yadda yadda, you let them in being a "good citizen". Uber Nazi agent sees foregrip next to AR pistol and you get some new jewelry courtesy of the US government. And, don't be surprised that the story they tell is the grip was attached to the pistol.

Good luck! Don't let anyone in without a warrant and seeing badges. If you are really a "bad dude" you're not going to get much interaction with them anyway. Keep your mouth shut!

While I don't approve of this type "check" without a heck of a lot more indicators of possible straw activity, it just demonstrates that a little cooperation goes a long way towards keeping things from spinning out of control. It appears all parties acted like adults and the end result was non-confrontational and uneventful.

It appears, based on the conversations between the owner and the officers, along with the comments captured between the officers, the officers really were not "into" their assignment. They only checked one and vs. the rest that were purchased and decided to leave the guy alone... kind of good on them in my book.

I have nothing to hide, and while I wouldn't want folks coming to my house to verify what I have, I have no problem showing my stuff and letting the guys move on to a better opportunity to catch a straw guy because there won't be any joy in dealing with me.

Personally, and again I don't really approve of such without some other serious indicators, but I think the article is just drama lama material... no real story to here IMO.

Like WRM stated... each person has to make their own decisions if/when they ever experience such a thing.

ETA- Chicago of all places... figures.

I think the main thing I learned here is not to buy multiple weapons on the same day! I've only done that once, when I happened into Walmart one day and they had huge clearance discounts on their rifles, bought 3 that day some time ago!

I certainly would not suggest posting instigating thoughts or opinions in this day and age. They just may decide to test your capabilities.

Or, more likely, it becomes an "exhibit A". I doubt they could ever muster enough manpower to go after the generic "online agitators". Use it against you when you already are targeted for another reason-absolutely!!

Everyone that’s ever signed on to a gun forum is on a list, in my opinion. I have a friend that says the government doesn’t know he has any guns , because he’s never bought one from a FFL and hasn’t had to fill out a 4473. I ask him if he bought a hunting license————— he had , so there is that.

No warrant, no luck. Without due process and a legal document signed by a federal judge, I will politely tell them to pound sand and that they're trespassing on private property...

Here's the non-internet commando bottom line, and I'm not calling ANYONE an internet commando... if, and that's a BIG if, you ever face such a situation you have two choices...

    1) show authorities what they want and enjoy a victory (if you're not doing anything wrong) as they do the walk of shame after no joy is found.

    OR

    2) exercise your "rights", refuse to cooperate while opining about your vast knowledge of the Fourth Amendment, and run the risk of further intrusion into other aspects of your life.

Me... I have nothing to hide and would enjoy doing #1, taking in the sight of folks leaving demoralized, and sleep well at night knowing the .gov folks are not conspiring behind the scenes after the fact in an effort to "show me who is boss".

That guy from CRS Firearms who got his pee-pee slapped... probably wishes now he had not poked the bear... just saying.

#1 ends it, #2 maybe not so much... choose wisely and decide for yourself what hill you want to die on.

Here’s how I see it , if they show up at your door you’ve already lost . The only decision you have to make at that point is how big of lose can you deal with. Before you explain your rights to them remind yourself that they are getting paid to target you, it’s most likely not personal at that point. If they ask you to do something that is relatively easy to comply with , that might be the easiest. If you turn them away there is a good chance that it will become personal. You are then dealing with people that are getting paid to screw with you and have a personal vendetta to settle as well. I’m pretty hard headed and have proved my point more than once over the years . But as I got older I learned to pick my battles and weigh cost against results. Thats my opinion and nothing more , just something to think about before you have to make a decision that could get costly.

I have a nice attorney who lives less than a mile away who is going to come over and have a nice conversation with them, and then I will send them a bill - and when they do not pay I will give another attorney a call and they will file against the nice government agency, make $100,000+ and I will not get a dime but will be very happy.

I'm not taking sides on this and don't know how I'd personally react to an unexpected visit. From what I've read here is seems at least some of 'us' agree that we live in a time where it is easier to give up our rights and get along, rather than stand up for them, knowing they (our rights) will protect us, which they mat not. Seems to me that no matter your attitude on this (stand your ground and risk retaliation or cave and comply), we have no rights & we're all fucked.

The more people that comply to warrant less searches the more emboldened these anti constitutionalists get. Sure , it may not be a big deal on the surface, but freedom is stolen inch by inch. Not miles at a time.

Also, these agents will make you stick to the letter of the law, so make them. Hold them accountable. If they have no warrant, tell em to kick rocks
