Yes, it does. But, if I had the enviable problem of picking a rifle for African dangerous game, I'd more likely look at the .416 Rigby. In the right hands, a 9.3 might be "adequate" for the bad boys of the Dark Continent, but I'd prefer to push a bit more lead at them. Heck, I'd take my .45-70 lever with hot, big grain loads for dangerous before I went 9.3. Some have taken elephant with the .45-70, but that still might be beyond my comfort zone. Maybe the .510 Aria Jeffrey (ha). Given the cost of dangerous game permits, it's entirely academic for me anyway.

The main thing is these all avoid the word "magnum" in the name, yet they still go about the business of taking out most anything needed.

Mention the Dark Continent and Magnums abound. Yet the truth be told, Karamojo Bell took more elephants with the 7 x 57 than others with larger Magnum Calibers. Not to mention that the 9.3 x 62 was the common Work Horse of it's day.

There are still plenty of Standard Length Actions that can and have handled most all game (Dangerous or Not) in America & Most every other Continent. The popularity of the Magnum title has slipped into use even with Standard action length cartridges like the 300 Win Mag, I guess MAGNUM makes the sales world work? So are the extra length barrels required by Actual Magnum Length Cartridges more of a hindrance than a help?

Yup, 25+ inches of barrel being toted by your Gun Bearer ain't a big problem, but it sure don't sound like a Senior Citizens best freind.......LOL.

I just wonder why Blind Box Magazines have dwindled to 4 rounds vice the more traditional 5 rounds common in years gone by? Most detachable Mags run 10 rounds.

To a large extent, I think. UMM...more powder, more noise, more recoil to kill something exactly as dead as a comparable non-magnum will? I'll pass on the magnums, by and large, thanks.

Stihl used to sell saws with a Magnum sticker on them. I tried to find out one time what exactly that meant. Those saws MIGHT have slightly larger jets in the carbs (or not). But a Magnum sticker--boy that'll cut wood more better, for sure! And, clearly, magnum calibers kill animals more deader.

The "new" thing in Western hunting is the 1,000 yard+ shot. Some of those guys are talking 26 inch+ barrels. Again, no thanks. I'd rather work into a reasonable shot with my non magnum or just pass on the animal than have to toss lead over a half mile. Given the increasing difficulty of the non res getting a permit for gun season on Western public land, it's again mostly academic for me.

Why do I feel like I've been baited? How hard do Y'all intend to rip my fish lips off?

This goes back to those Civilian-Military Bolt Actions with hinged floor plates that eventually replaced the 1903 & M1 Sniper Rifles. Yup, Uncle Sam Welded or ordered rifles with "Blind Boxes" until the "CRY" for detachable mags became so loud from all the Operators that it couldn't be IGNORED! Big Green never stepped up to the 912 Meter Advertised Plate like the USMC. But the M14NM/M21 with a 22 inch barrel and 175 grain Lake City Load has been 1,000 yard capable for over 60 years. Thus the M40 & M24 loaded with M118 Special Ball etc....... have been performing 1000 yard and more Dirty Deeds since before most readers were Born. All this from a Short Action, although the ARMY (aka Big Green) ordered the M24 with a Standard Length Action while using the .308 Win Short Action Cartridge, the USMC used the Short Action (SA) in the M40. But the Operators cry for more distance rang out in I/A Operations.........

So the current 7.62 x 67mm (300 Win Mag) Bolt Action M2010 is nothing more than the Standard Action Rem 700 in an updated frame with modern production US MADE LEUPOLD Optics. Yup, when Uncle Sam upped the ante to 1400 Meters, the 300 Win Mag (still a standard length cartridge) was more than able to fill the requirement. (although allot of other candidates made thier way onto the Battlefield in route) With allot of publicity that shouldn't have been suddenly NAVY PRECISION RIFLEMAN became HEADLINE NEWS and COVERT OPERATIONS & OPERATORS became the BUZZ WORD of the day. (Please excuse My Opinion)

Now just research the use of Mac's BMG 50 by those Nam Vets without a Blind Box if Y'all really need to "Reach Out and Touch Something". EOD & UDT made better use than that USMC Scope Mounted Ma Deuce that Carlos got credit for. JMHO.

But Big Green has a Semi-auto Barret and the USN has been using Mac's Bolt Action at further distances, but none of this was known until a couple of Canadians used American Made 50 BMG rounds to make it into the record books.

Long winded and Bourbon inspired, but this may be the first time I've left Y'all to research something Yourselves?

I dunno. What I said is true--the Western hunters increasingly seem to be more inclined to move back a ridge to take a shot because shooting at 200 yards is somehow less sporting. I don't understand it, but Jack O'Connor was the one who said we had no real business shooting at game over about 200 yards, not me.

Now if we're talking overwatch, human targets and whether our guys come back, I'd certainly want my operator to have what they "want" if they can get the job done with it.

My dirty secret is I do actually have a magnum--.338 Win Mag. In my defense, I bought it when I thought I might still get to AK on a bear hunt and a lot of the outfitters have minimum cal requirements. But, it's a "classic" magnum, so that makes me feel a little better.

Back when I was invited to go White Bear Hunting, I entertained the use of the 9.3 x 62, but at SEA LEVEL ICE Temperatures it wouldn't make a 300 yard (my self imposed limit) Nosler 1800 fps minimum, yet the Nosler 300 Win Mag was theoretically capable. Actual shot was well below 300 yards. (Doubt if TEDDY knew it was a 9.3 or .30 caliber projectile.) The .338 Win Mag is another Standard Length Action (30-06) and it's highly regarded for American Dangerous Big Game. It also eats barrel throats (like the 300 Win Mag) so with the large selection of .308 projectiles it's a little easier to down load the 300 Win Mag for deer etc......JMHO.

About JACK, try taking your sporting firearm to the 200 yard range and shooting it unsupported while standing at an 8 inch target. Even the Military won't ask you to do anything more for a scored event! Ain't many that can post a 20-200-20X unsupported standing on the 200 yard One Way Range! JMHO. Let those internet Commandos post thier attested competition targets online.........

But if your using a guide, he may place a milk jug at an unknown distance and require you to hit it before taking you afield. It might play into what distance he tells you that the shot is yours? Jack wasn't talking about sitting, kneeling, or prone shooting. Attempting a shot unsupported while standing at 200 yards that you have a 98% chance of accomplishing on an unmoving paper target????
Yup, do it on paper 98% of the time then we can discuss how much real business anyone has taking such a shot! JMHO. About JACK... (lol)
