I've got your number stored. Will it be alright to call after 7pm? We are both off after 7pm Wednesday - Friday, are evenings going to be okay? She works Sundays in the evenings so she sleeps during the day.

Why can't you get a different house somewhere else? You may have already answered this elsewhere (and I'm sorry if you did) but it bears repeating. You don't get a do-over with your life. The neighbors are directly targeting you. You aren't Clint Eastwood or John Wayne. Even if you are legal in wacking somebody or multiple somebody's, you'll be traumatized and still probably get a different house

True points, Raven, but she already stated that moving isn't an option. Further details don't really matter.

She seems on a good path.
    -house has physical security upgrades
-security system & cameras are upgraded
-#1 improvement is the new dog
-alternating work schedules means the home is occupied more.
-thugs were lulled into "easy target" syndrome with first two robberies but got caught by police on 3rd due to cameras. Should make them less enthusiastic about a 4th try.

All of these things are good deterrents.

    Honney, my 2-cents:

Add some "Beware of dog" signs to help, too.
However, though, in my opinion, Don't leave a water/food dish outside unattended. Not in your neighborhood. Why? Because the same pieces of human garbage that would invade someone's home are the same type of wastes of oxygen that would poison a guard dog. Antifreeze smells sweet and is apparently tasty to animals. It's cheap and unfortunately very effective. And it's a horrible way for an animal to die. You should be outside with your dog as much as possible to see what he/she gets into, just in case.

^---- Those are all deterrents. What if some idiot(s) ignore obvious warnings? That's why you started this thread. So, I will add to the recommendation: coordinate for JJ's class (member name "one-shot"). Best $50+ you and your daughter could invest right now. Go sooner than later.

You're doing the right things. Walk tall. Stay observant. Be a hard target. Learn to protect yourselves. Enjoy growing that human/animal bond with your dog. Let your confidence increase and live your life without fear.

Moving isn't an option. I did move out for a while to have security doors, windows and system with battery backup video and audio installed, as well as a Big ole brindle red nosed pitbull that is a magnificent alarm, he is a wonderful guard dog!

    Criminals hate big dogs!

Check out the rescues. Long ago I volunteered at one and had a pit bull named Ace who was very protective and after many months of working with him, we found him some new owners (two young 20 something girls).

Someone broke into the girls house the next year and they did not make it back out. I am not sure if the criminal survived but the criminal went straight to the hospital.
We have adopted Arie's, he is a big ole meathead and VERY protective!!! We adopted him as an adult, trained dog from owners that had to move and he fits perfectly

We are definitely going to take advantage of JJ's class!!! I'm hoping for Sunday. I haven't gotten to that message yet, still learning how to find the replies on this forum. I appreciate your input and I agree about the food/water bowls 100%!!! Arie's only eats/drinks inside! That's something my Dad taught me as a child due to his own unfortunate past experiences. Thank you for the warm welcome!!!

JJ usually prefers the phone vs online stuff. I doubt he'd mind if you called and spoke with him directly.

As for messages on this forum, the software calls them "conversations" now. (you might see people still refer to them the older way as a "PM", for Private Message) There should be an envelope icon somewhere at the top of your screen. If there's a new conversation started, you should see an indication there.

Congrats on you and Aries finding each other. Sounds like a great match. :)

whichever gun decided on, i would recommend getting two exactly the same for each of you., with some speedloaders

a .357 with a 3"-4" barrel would be a good choice. then for practice, use .38spec ammo, but try out the .357 also in practice, to be used to the higher recoil & noise.

smith & wesson, taurus, rossi, there are several names, the first smith will be the highest cost..

Thank you for the info!!! My daughter keeps talking/asking about a Glock for her 21st birthday, but I think more than anything, it's a more familiar name to her than anything else. I will be getting her something practical, something that she will be able to easily handle rapidly and will still have a lot of power behind it. I've got a lot of research to do on all of the firearms that've been mentioned in the thread so that I can make the right choice for the both of us. The two of us having the same gun just makes more sense, I'm definitely 100% in agreement with you there!!!

I haven't mentioned these here yet but if you can't wait for the money it's better to start with different less expensive guns. Many guns just can't be bought right now nor can ammo.

A couple that haven't been mentioned yet. Keep in mind ammo prices right now should have a big choice in what you buy. 9mm is once again readily available and not too high in price. .357, .38 special and several others you just can't even find right now and would cost you a bunch to practice with for a complete new person like your daughter.

I highly suggest a 9mm to learn shooting with mainly because of the price.

I have a Ruger LC9S. It's 9mm, smallish pistol size (I can front pocket carry it) with a pretty good knockdown punch since it's a 9mm. You could buy regular ammo for cheap practice now and buy some "defense" higher power rounds to fill the gun when you carry it. The LC9S has even been in stock some lately through RKGuns, a Florida retailer.

The Ruger EC9S is essential the same gun with fixed sights. Always carry a gun in a holster no matter how you carry it. The Uncle Mikes soft holster works great for pocket carry.

Another excellent small concealable gun for you both would be the Ruger LCP in .380ACP Not the newer LCP2 but the original LCP can be had today for $215 from RKGuns. This gun has even been in stock at Academy on Davis highway lately for $249. The newer model (and the LC9S) do have a much better trigger.

I hope you know a .380ACP is not a 38 special. A .380ACP will not knock anyone off the floor but beats nothing. The downside is like 38 special .380 ACP ammo is hard to find now.

I carry 90% of the time when I'm out and I carry a Keltec P32 but it's the same physical size as the LCP which I wish I would have bought.

these are reasonable, and with 30 rounds in each mag, with an extra mag, that is 60 rounds, times the 2nd gun, =120 rounds of .22mag.... it is a large gun, but light due to polymer frame. and manageable to boot...comes in black and tan, easy to tell who's is which.

    RUGER LCP MAX.
Love mine with it's 12+1 cap. Small, light, super easy to conceal, ergonomically damn near perfect.
The felt recoil to power ratio is great.
    Ya'll can keep your 9's. --- SAWMAN

The day somebody makes a 33 round mag for a 380 LCP available for under $35 and THEN makes a rifle that takes that 33 round 380 LCP mag then I MIGHT sell my compact 9mm Glock G26 and all of it's 33 round 9mm mags and its rifle that takes the same 33 round 9mm mags. Not likely. That is why I love my Glock 9mm. And yes I do own a 380 and I've owned half a dozen 380's over the years... but only one now, just in case one day in WW3 I can't find 9mm ammo but I can 380 :)

The Ruger EC9S is essential the same gun but DOES NOT have any safety. You may not want a gun with no safety. The gun is still pretty darn safe to carry as it's a striker fired gun and can not fire unless the trigger is pulled. When a gun is in a holster it's hard pull the trigger. Always carry a gun in a holster no matter how you carry it. The Uncle Mikes soft holster works great for pocket carry.

Very familiar with the Keltec, that's what they stole the first time they broke in. That's going to be nearly impossible now...but people can be extremely determined. I appreciate all of this good info!!! My friend certainly directed me to the correct group for what I've been looking for!!! Safety training and proper equipment for both my daughter and I!!! You all are an amazingly informative and helpful group!!! I truly appreciate everyone's input and help!!!!
