Well - you can steam out a dent in a stock - but that would not really work on a barrel…

Well - -> this is a really good one.
Is it and older Damascus bbl or newer "normal" gun steel bbl ??
Sorry sir ... I do not know the answer to this but would direct you to a member of our forum.
JJ (ONESHOT) will know. ( Pls contact him by phone )
My "guess". It cannot effectively and reasonably be done. ---- SAWMAN

There is a tool made just to remove dents from shotgun barrels.

Single barrel break action, Apex (Iver Johnson, Champion but was a store brand) ...
    modern steel, bead sight
dent is about 3/4 way down towards muzzle, its visible inside and out but unsure of how much (0.025 of an inch, but no idea)

The tool is probably 3 times more expensive than the shotgun is by its self so ... cost prohibitive.

It’s been 20 or more years ago, but I had walkers in Alabama take a dent out of a expensive double barrel. They specialized in shot gun repair. I believe they were/are in Selma Alabama.

Another option could be - -> take it to JJ and have hime chop it and face it,just inside the dent.
Use it for HD or truck gun. ---- SAWMAN

I worked with a guy that got mud in his barrel and got one of those pipe cutters that plumbers use and cut the bad spot off. Got some of that touch up bluing and when he finished you couldn’t tell it. Don’t know how it affected his pattern but he kept using it.

He cut his barrel down over getting some mud on a gun?!?

An angle grinder does a good job of chopping a barrel - just do not let it get too hot and keep it over 18" (18.5" to be safe)

It is one of the nicer examples of this type of shotgun that I've seen ... would like to just fix it.

I had the same problem a few years ago. I dropped my winchester double barrel and dented both barrels. Made me sick. !
I called everywhere and asked every gun smith and shop i could. It turned out that the tools to fix it are so expensive and seldom called for, that a gunsmith isn’t going to buy them and let them lay around. I finally gave up and sold the gun as is. As a parts gun.

If you were to find a smith with the tools it would probably cost you 10 times what your gun is worth. Lots of labor.

This dent came with the shotgun when I got it ... but, I know that as a kid while squirel hunting with my dad a long long time ago, leaned his Stevens side-by-side against the back of the station wagon and it slid and hit the trailer hitch. He was upset with me but he got it fixed.
