I am looking for a low power quick response name brand sight for a .556mm M4. What would you choose and why?

+1 On what rider said. If you can see it, you can hit it. Have a 3x on my business as and a 1x on my 9mm carbine... or Lvpo 1x4, burris or vortex. Lightweight and adj.

Trijicon - because they are the best.

MRO HD and 3x or an ACOG 4x (takes a lot of practice for 2 eye open shooting). MRO HD has the outside circle that I like - I think it is faster.

Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 $230 or
1-8x24 $300 works very well for me. Illuminated when needed, at 1x I run them like a red dot, very useful reticle, and magnification when you need it. Will need scope mounts though. Guaranteed forever too.
Love them on 10.5" AR pistols, or.....

How much do you want to spend? Trijicon, Elcan, eotech and aimpoint are options that I trust my life with... what model you go with depends on what you intend to use the rifle for.

The M4 will go through an upgrade (floating match grade barrel, trigger assembly) intended to make the rifle agile at various ranges intended up to 600-800 yards. I have a 3X converter so high power isn't needed. I don't want to go over $500 (rings not included) for the scope. Im in the planing phase now. I got homework to do from all the suggestions. Whats your advice?

I've got a couple of these 1-6x and 1-8× Vortex scopes. Keep it on 1x for CQB and walking around. Takes half a second to adjust to the 6x or 8x to reach out and touch something. No messing around with mounts or wondering whether or not your zero is still good. Only downside is they're a little heavier than a red dot by itself, but so what, not by much. For a dedicated red dot I absolutely love my Redfield, but it's out of production. Incorporated into the one piece mount/body design is a laser as the riser under the optic body. In line with the laser is a 3volt battery to run both the red dot and the laser. So it saves weight using only one battery and one rail mount for two tools. Saves space by using the laser/battery compartment as the riser under the optic. The laser beam is just the right height to go over my folded front sight, too. After they were discontinued I managed to find a second one at a pawn shop as a spare for $100.

ACOG one eye for me. 2 eye is a no go for me. I know they are designed for it but I can't focus

Lol. I'm 2 eyes on an acog, particularly if I'm shooting fast or at moving targets (hogs)... if I want to be more precise I find myself shutting my left eye out of habit.

    What John B said...
Personally I’d recommend Eotech without question.

The hold overs on the Vortex are spot on with .223/5.56 too.

True on the best. But, very high dollar. Not a lot of pockets are that deep.
I like the burris fast fire.
    Be safe, guys

Just how inexpensive are iron sights at these moderate distances? Perhaps glow in the dark irons are the way to go???? JMHO.

Hey c'mon now, let's keep the three letter profanity to a minimum...we don't like the "O" word. I prefer experienced
