I think it might be the farmland that drives the shotgun thing. I hunted UT and AZ at elevations ranging from 5000 to 9500 feet. We typically hunted with high powered rifles sighted at 200 yards. The the density of nonhunting humans were very thin.

You can hunt deer with air rifles now. So I don’t think you have to worry about this
Freecutter: Uk basically outlawed knives too. Don’t see how this relates to hunting regulations.

I was referring to your post on hunting wit air rifles. if air rifles are outlawed, there will be no legal hunting with such. Knives are more of a different issue, but they are still needed to butcher your game.

    Yep.
The ridge is elevated and surrounded by farmland and towns.

I live in the free state of Alabama. We strive to be last with all new trends and in education.

    Now football. Roll Tide.

When I was a kid everyone deer hunted with a Belgium Browning or an 1100. A few had slug guns. Only the weird uncles had deer rifles.

    Go Tigers.

Lotsa shotgun hunters down here too. One of my classmates has killed a bunch of deer with an old sweet 16 with “polychoke”.

several gun manufacturers made or make a slug gun that just bad to the bone out to 150yrds.
Someone has already mentioned it but we hunted with #1,00,000 12 gauge buck shot because we hunted with hounds in south Mississippi, I do recall one or 2 guys using 10 gauges, those were 54 pellets of #4 buck!
Left that behind but I miss that adrenaline rush on a cold morning when those hounds jumped one and started running straight to me.

As far as I can tell, he got tired of not getting the respect he thought he deserved. I told him flat-out that he had made some serious boasts about his past and what he was currently capable of and at some point he would have to do something to demonstrate even a small part of that skill or folks were going to assume he was one of "those guys" that talk a lot of smack but always have somewhere else to be on competition day.

Last I heard from him. FWIW, he could be infuriating because he would stake out an arbitrary hill to die on for whatever his cause of the week was, but he did spark some interesting conversations. The "water heater full of water" as a bear analog was honestly some of his best work.

Kinda miss having him around as well.

What might happen if the antigunner get what they want we will be restricted to single barrel 28 ga and .410 bore shotguns after a lengthy permitting possess. This would be with only a light specified slug without fancy handloading since that would outlawed. All shells would bear a special bar code and the shot and powder would bear special tracers. You could only buy ammo if you turned in your empty shells for recycling and long detailed digital picture and video from your body cam to show what you shot with the ammo . This would be prior to eventually outlawing any hunting or fishing.
Bingo. Give an inch, take a mile. Typical lefty tactic.

Since most of us east of the Mississippi harvest deer at close range, what happens when the Government restricts deer hunting to shotgun only?

The National Rifle Association reports some states enforce restrictions on firearm hunters pursuing whitetails. Ten states mandate shotgun only during the firearm season. These states are inclusive of Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Massachuetts, Delaware, Maine, and Rhode Island. Three states impose shotgun only restrictions on firearm hunters in designated areas. These include Minnesota, Michigan, and Virginia. Roughly, 25% of all states impose shotgun only restrictions. This minority has produced the majority of all BTR entries.

I'm pretty sure that list ain't right. Maine for example I mean I know my step-dad has a ruger 44 carbine and 308 win 88.

Since y'all brought up an old thread, I'll add my 2cents. When I got stationed at Elgin in the 70's, deer hunting on the reservation was buckshot only. Now buckshot is illegal and almost anything goes with rifles and pistols. I suspect that the op has never left the county that he lives in as there are plenty of shots to take past 100yds east of the Mississippi.

Hunting with a shotgun isn't an issue for me!!! But as with any rule, it's just put in place for someone to break. I tend to not comply with rules that are solely put into place by government just so it fits their narrative or want. States have shotgun only hunting its mostly due to flat land or something dealing with safety and long range projectiles. It will never happen down south unless it's one of those rules that isn't necessary and it's just something government wants. When that happens I'll keep on doing just as I did before it was a rule.
