I have come to realize how much I dislike black synthetic stocks; two of my shotguns have them. It doesn’t bother me when I’m using them. But when I look at them hanging in the rack next to the wood ones, I think, “Man those are ugly”. I have even thought of painting them. I could get rid of them, but they are good guns. I guess it’s like driving a Ford and you’re a Chevy man.

I am about over my "pretty wood" days. I have had some really nice wood stocked guns in the past that I have managed to ding up through normal usage.
Today,my gun ownership is directed towards the guns that I will actually use. NOTHING PRETTY . . . NOTHING COLLECTABLE. Just good shooters, good hunters, and perfect (for me) carry weapons.
    That's it. --- SAWMAN

I was raised on wooden stocked firearms. My dad always had them. All showed wear and a few scuffs and scratches. But, a walnut oiled finish is a charmer. He left me 2 A5's and 2 BAR's. I still get to shoot them and hunt a couple of times a year with them.

Your comments are valid. But, I enjoy the look of wood.
I absolutely agree it looks better and far less "tactical"... just doesn't serve my purpose. My Rizzini O/U and Maxus sporting clays are wood stocked and would look like lipstick on a pig with synthetic!

I agree. An AR platform for example would look odd to me with wood furniture. A fine SxS 12ga would seem odd in synthetic. I guess to each his own as they say. It seems like so many younger people and those new to shooting like tactical equipment and the way it looks and performs. I'm just an old dude who likes the wood look for the most part. My hunting days are limited. And, because I don't walk so well, I've done my last elk and antelope hunts years ago.
    Be safe.

I'm going to be a little dirty here but hopefully don't offend.
All this talk about wood or synthetic sounds like an argument between straight and lesbian women. Bi lady over on the side saying as long as it works I'll use it.

Well, you have a valid point triathlon. Yet the shotguns purpose should determine the material it's stock is made from. Water fowler's can appreciate synthetic stocks. Upland hunters can do with whatever is less costly, should you need to perform a butt stroke upon an intruder perhaps solid wood is preferred? JMHO.

Polymer stock holds up well when used for such application.. well the one on the M16 did haha
Didn't they quit training for rifle lifts once the M16 replaced the wooden stocked M14, or are they still training folks to lift a man over a wall using M16 variations? But even Big Green quit issuing bayonets for H-H with M16 variations. Yet real wood still has applications on Field Shotguns. JMHO.

The M14 has much more area to use as grip, I've never done that training with the M16, could see it breaking honestly, side loading the aluminum where it may bend.
