I know pistol primers are in short supply, especially small, but how about rifle primers? Specifically, are Large Rifle Primers available?
Yeah, I've seen large primers in general at several shops. Large rifle and large Magnum rifle have been abundant and while not as abundant I've seen at least some large pistol and large Magnum pistol primers at the same shops.

Don't forget about Styx River Shooting Center in Robertsdale or Buck & Bass as well as USA Performance in Pensacola.

And can you guys please keep an eye out for some jacketed .40 projectiles while you are out shopping? Thanks! -Josh
As of just a few minutes ago I saw this at MidwayUSA. Midwayusa if they have it are quite fast, but I would not delay.

I shoot a lot of .45 ACP so I also have fewer LP than small. Anyone ever use large rifle primers in .45 ACP? :p
Make sure your mainspring is a full strength gi spring and I would reduce the load and hope for the best. Not sure if it is safe to do or not.

Thanks, but it was meant as a joke. Large rifle primers are deeper/longer (and primer pockets in the rifle brass are deeper) than large pistol, so I don't think large rifle primers would seat properly in pistol brass. I believe small rifle and small pistol primers are the same dimensions

Edited to add...Actually, I was hoping someone might offer to trade me some LP for LR primers :)

Depending on what the difference in length is, if you are using a full size press to do your priming, if you use more force to flatten the primer, maybe it will become short enough.
i am not going to try it anytime soon.

I won't be trying that either. I actually have a lot of pistol primers, just have more large rifle than I could ever use.

I started reloading when I was 16 and I did manage to crush a primer or two by getting them in side ways with my Herters Press. I had one that fizzled when I crushed i side ways. None ever detonated.

I started much later but I've crushed a few primers myself, and my early Lee Pro 1000 also had the unfortunate tendency to seat them upside down on occasion . I've been reloading some 33 years and I haven't detonated any either...yet.

The oldest Herters presses for priming has a threaded shell holder that screwed in on top where dies would also be placed. The primer device was screwed on the top of the ram and had tremendous leverage behind it. Purchased that press in 1962.
I am speaking of the original Herters that went out of business in the 70's.
