Well, I hope we can have it added to the forum. It would be useful for ppl like myself wanting to know what something is worth, not what an "asking" price is, like on gunbroker, this would be for anything, whether it's a firearm, lawnmower, coinage, to a automobile....

I have 3 firearms I'd like to know what they are worth.....

1st is a 6.35 cal (.25 cal) Astra pistol.... Unccta y Compania S.A. Heavily Scrolled.....

2nd is a Ruger MKI, 5 digit serial # 22xxx, with 12" barrel, (19-3/4" OAL), leupold M8-4x Extended E.R. (Eye Relief) scope, 9-shot clip, wood grips, 98% with holster
    I just can't find a 12" barrel MKI.....

3rd is a Browning BAR Belgium made 30-06 with a Karl Kahles 3x12x56 scope.... does not have gold trigger..... I've an idea on it, (1,500) but told it's worth more, is it??

I like the sound of it, I'm often asked to appraise guns, maybe having a good thread for it would be a good idea as long as we made it clear that our assessment is NOT an offer to buy. Plus, not everyone has an updated copy of "The Book"

I like it! Be good for anything. Maybe a gun section and a anything else section.

The opinions/prices would probably average out and give a somewhat realistic answer. Numbers from the "book" versus what someone locally is willing to pay.

I don't know.People all have there ideas about what stuff is worth . Someone will saywhat they think and 3 people are going to say it's worth more and 3 people will say less. But worth a try and the mods can always shut it down.

You're probably right Bird but maybe with some extra rules, or maybe self policing against lowballing and arguing. Rule #1: This is an appraisal thread. Arguing, insults and pissing matches will not be tolerated. If you don't have something constructive to add, move on.

I had a guy get mad at me because I told him his Cobra 380 was worth $120 new.. He said $275, so I posted the link for a company selling them for $119. He still argued that they run $300+.

Rule #2: If a member puts an item up for appraisal and you are interested in purchasing, take it right to PMs. This is NOT a for sale thread.

Rule #3: This thread is for questions concerning unusual items. If you have a.common firearm, use the search function.

I'll get Ian to make you moderator of that thread.

I would.give it a shot. I'll do it for free, BUT, the rules have to be laid out before the forum opens and I want to make a public statement that any action taken by me will be executed against the commonly understood interpretation of the rules. Not gonna argue. My authority won't have anything to do with values put on items, it'll have everything to do with someone being a jerk, trying to pull a scam, make it a for sale thread or any other misdirection of the intent of the forum.

Oh, and the above rules are in addition to the standard. Insults, name calling, etc. not tolerated.

One last thing. I would do it for a couple of months and see how it goes. Personally, I may have something happen and have to give up the position. Maybe not but no one ever knows what the future brings. If I can't give it 100% at some point then I need an option.

It would just end up a for sale thread without having to list it for sale and having folks PM in their bid making it an auction...BAD idea...that happens now when folks ask, that or they move it to the for sale area after they get some inflated prices. Anyone can do their own research or take to JJ and he will tell them or where to look.

as with ebay, gunbroker has a completed listings colum, so you can tell what certain guns actually sold for, (you have to sign in to get there) or just average out the buy it nows for new guns. You can't go by the asking prices. It would be alot more accurate that what someone on the net tells you.

Ever seen one of these? Fishing reel that casts from the side, opposed from the front like an old zebco push-button spincast reel.
I've never seen one so, What's it Worth?
