can an ipad be unlocked? my mother in law died a month ago, i have her ipad, password protected. i wanted to see if any pictures were in it...

does it lock up tight if too many attempts are made?

Google for resetting an ipad, and if that does not work to reset the PW, may be able to jailbreak it.

If you have access to her email and cell phone you should be able to unlock it.

her cell phone is 500 miles away, i did not get it, no laptop, and probably stopped using her email address years ago...

can an alternate id be made in it? and will it lock up for good if too many attempts at guessing a password is made?

No, you can't make an alternative ID to use. Usually it will time out after a certain number of tries then you can try again later. Some people have it set to erase their device after a certain amount of tries.

Apple makes it very difficult to get into an ID. Resetting the password usually involves the cell phone tied to the account and or the email address as well.

If you can't get into the device it becomes a paperweight.
