Hey all; I’ve had a reloading set for years, and just now breaking it out.

Looking for a subsonic .223/5.56 load that I can use for plinking. Any insight would be great!

Also, I feel overwhelmed when I look into which sized primers I should use. Any advice there would be greatly appreciated as well.

If I remember right, I think most 223 brass is set up for SRP. You would need to ream it out if you wanted to use LRP.

If you need some SRP - I think there's some on the Reloading components trade thread or a forum member can hook you up with some depending on how much you need. :)

The energy of a subsonic 223 is 140-170ft/lbs depending on bullet weight.

    A 40 grain 22lr energy is 130ft/lbs

A brick of 22lr ammo and ar15 conversion kit is going to be cheaper than reloading components for 223 subs

if your running a 223 bolt gun they are fun to mess around with, but 223/5.56 gas guns and subsonics aren’t worth it, youll battle gas issues unless your running 300 blackout.

    THIS!!^^^

I ruined a .5.56 stainless barrel 1-7 twist shooting .22lr with the CCMG.
Rifling stripped the lead off the .22lr bullets and terrible accuracy.
When switching AR bolt back in to fire 5.56, the target reveals tumbling bullets.

Try as I might I could not get lead out of rifling to stop bullet tumbling and restore accuracy.

Got a 1-16” dedicated .22lr barrel for that upper receiver and now enjoy a ton of accurate fun with .22LR at the range.
Got barrel from Right to Bear Arms.

Lots of folks apparently have no problem with the CCMG ar adapter but I did and could not clean or shoot the lead out.
My guess is the 5.56 “ironed” in the lead into rifling compounding my problem.

    Your mileage may vary.
    May not.

I’m far from a expert gun guy and this was my experience.
