I am interested in this caliber, any thoughts? I would like a varmit round and my understanding is that I can shoot regular 243 or go AI when I reload. I think they refer to that as fire forming. Thought it might be a fun found to play with. I already have a 6.5 creedmoor but have always been a fan of 243.

My wife has been shooting a 30-30AI for over 20 years now. I can get another 150fps with the AI over the 30-30Win. Her gun is a single shot T/C Contender rifle.
Chamber a 30-30,fire,out pops a perfectly formed AI. Most of the time no trimming to length needed. I shoot a 243Win pistol but no expierance with the AI version. Do some googleing and you will probably find a lot of info including the velocity increase. I would guess 100fps.
You should also consider the 7mm-08AI. I believe that this chambering would be more efficient. --- SAWMAN

I read about guys getting 3100+ With the 115’s but they are having to single feed. If you are planning to feed from an AI Magazine I would recommend the 6 Creed. I’m getting 3070 with 115’s with light swipes Out of a 26”

Thanks for the input. What I liked about the 243AI was the I could shoot regular 243 if need be.

In my wife's 30-30AI I gathered all her 30-30Win ammo (Fed,Rem,Win) and shot it thru her AI.
First thing I noticed was it was accurate. Also, the brass came out perfect. No split necks, blown primers, etc. Unknown if this will be the same with the 243AI. What could make a difference is the bore diameter and you are working at much higher pressures.
This is the reason that some people reload the 243 with "fairly" light loads to fireform. Keep us informed as to how this project goes. --- SAWMAN
