Looking at reloading some of both of these.

25-06 - got 117 grain Hornady Interlock Soft Points
270 - got some 130 grain Remington Core-Lokt Soft Points

Looking at Hogdon I was trying to find a common powder that is available locally (FWB area). Came up with IMR 4831.

Anyone recommend a different one to start out with?

You could use different, but not necessarily better. 4831 is one of the more versatile powders.

Fairly hard to find however Hodgdon Hybrid 100-V seems to produce some of the best vels with those bullets mentioned. This,as per a load program that I have available.
I am showing H4831 is a better all around powder however the vels produced are a bit lower. I do understand that vel is not primary and that accuracy is . . . so . . . YMMV.
If these chamberings are for deer,I suggest that you consider a lighter bullet. Maybe the 90-100gr bullets would be better. Especially the "no lead" bullets. --- SAWMAN

I saw that Hybrid 100-V powder listed to... tempting. I'll have to see if any is in stock when I head into town.

I use IMR4831 in my .25-06 and am getting about .26 MOA using that bullet. I used the Hornady cases and 210M primers. H4831 was a little loose as well as RL-22. The old Hornady Custom loads (discontinued) were giving me .5 MOA, so I tried to get something close to that in speed and got it on the money.
The round out of the group is cold clean bore.

I seat it to the cannalure and put a light crimp with a factory crimp die like Hornady did.

I have had some real good results with H100V in my .270s too. Got 3200 fps with the 130gr TSX bullets, weren't that accurate and man the entry holes were gruesome on deer. Backed down to the 110TTSX and slowed them up some and my High Wall shoots them well. I need to play with it some more before I make my mind up. I mostly shoot slowed down Accubonds running about 2750 fps on H4831SC and get very close to .5 MOA

Yeah, I did the same with my 30-06, strangely the same brand and "model". I was shooting the Hornady Custom in 150 Interlock at a listed speed of 2910fps... reloaded using the same bullet and 50grains of Varget and getting sub MOA groups with it. Sounds like our process is about the same with the slight crimp too.

Isn't H414 and W760 about the same? Kind of like H110 and W296 for pistols. Good ball powder.

25-06 h4831sc over Berger hunter vlds set .03 off the lands / 26 in barrel. I load this for my ruger 1v and my buddies Thompson. just a little over recommended max. He says, sword at hunting camp is " the hogs head " smoke" when he hits them." I just punch paper with mine. My guess is probably little too slow of a burner for short barrels and lighter bullets.

I hope you are able to get some to try. My .260 loves it under the Barnes 127LRX more the .050 off the lands and runs close to these L/A speed 2894 average fps. The primer edges are still rounded. I think its speed is between H4831 and H4350...monos like velocity. I have a bunch if you can't find it.

that has got to be murderous on whitetails

I used a good bit of W760 and one of the other guys use H414 in our .260s until we got some H4350. The W760 was a bit squirrelly at higher temps.

    Looks like March 3-4

Thanks! I need to make a note of that. My hunting buddy and I went over the couple of times a year to it for supplies. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas last year he went to hunt in a better place...sure do miss that fella at times. He always kept up with the dates.

I may try to head up this time, haven't been to a show up there.

Loaded up a couple boxes of 270 for my brother using the IMR 4831 and the 130 grain soft points. We'll see how the gun likes them. If he's at 2moa then he's happy. Shouldn't be an issue.
