So I'm looking to build an AR15 platform longer range gun. Using for hunting out to about 400yards in Wyoming and Colorado for mule deer and antelope(maybe a sheep if I can get a tag).

This caliber should do the trick right?

If you are restricting yourself to an AR15 platform, then this is probably the best you will do. In general, I think the 123 grain Grendel round may be too light for what you are after.

I have a bolt gun in 6.5 creedmoor. I was just thinking that the Grendel would fit in for the closer range shots. Maybe 300 yards max?

Ran some numbers through strelok pro and at 2525 MV it would give me 1100 ft/lbs at 300 yards.

you have the best already in the creedmoor, it will shoot at 100 too you know...lol

I was thinking about getting one of the Howa mini action 6.5 Grendel, should be a good, lightweight hunting rifle.
