Looking around the forum I see lots of nice guns showcased and talked about. I am curious about how much ammo you go through during a shoot and how much you like to keep on hand. I have around 5000 rds .223/5.56, about that much if not more in 9mm, .45 and .40, in each caliber. Plus 250 or so each in 12 and 20 gauge.

Just wondering if I have enough! (I keep buying it either way)

I'm with Frank, thousands and I keep buying more when I have the money and find a good deal. I figure my two boys won't ever have to buy a lot of ammo themselves if I keep at it!

I have "a good bit" of ammo and invested in hand loading equipment and supplies so I'll definitely keep on stock piling .22 ammo and components to load 9mm, 40, 45 and 38 special. Probably not too much factory ammo but who knows...next ammo crunch will be ??? probably 10+ years

It won't go bad in your lifetime. I'm sure you've heard " buy it cheap, stack it deep."

Obviously you have to balance that with available funds and much you actually shoot/want to shoot. If you only shoot 200rds per session and only go to the range 3 times a year... 1000rds will last awhile.

Ammo prices are low, and they're throwing around rebates. It's a buyer's market. Stock up while you can.

If you know how much ammo you have, it's not enough. There was a thread about ammo junkies a few years ago, it was pretty interesting.

I remember when I used too think that 1000 rounds per caliber was a lot.

I have shoot over 500 in the last 2 weeks, how do you work this out, as how much to have on hand loaded over 6k of 556 and about 5k of 9mm, have only about 1 and 1/2 k of 556 left and about 500 9mm, got to get going and load some more. Just my 5 centsjj

    yeah right, me too...

my spare bedroom should be placarded 1.4S

    still room under the bed.

Yea, Ive got a small walk-in closet full. I use the tall 4 drawer file cabinets. 30 and 50 cal cans fit very well, and makes it look a little less crazy. I've got three overfull though, and so after that its just all stacked around.

Need to get some shelving from jj :)

How much ammo do I have?... depends on who's asking.

    The government... none.

    Anyone else... not nearly enough.

zombie attacks can eat the rounds up quick....with only 5000 rnds, they will be eating you in a week, two max..
