There have been a few comments about Harvey but no dedicated Thread so here it is. Harvey is still kicking around and the water is going to continue to rise for another week.

The center of Harvey is slowly moving SE and back out over the Gulf of Mexico, looks like a lot more rain for the Houston area before it finally moves NE and out of Texas in a couple of days.

While watching Fox reporting from the Convention Center, where all Evac/rescued people moved to. In the background was LE doing pat downs and searching all bags. What are they looking for? Drugs, alcohol, weapons. A lot of folks in Texas have guns and if I was in their situation I would have a couple with me and ammo to feed them. In Fl there is a special Law that allows carry during evac without a permit.
I looked for info/Rules on Harvey Evac Centers, specifically firearms but only found locations, dogs allowed and not much else.

We know during Katrina what LE did, trying to confiscate all firearms. What are they doing in TX? We know a lot of these people are going to be relocated.

The general population was told not to evacuate because last time (Rita), as many people were killed in the evacuation as the hurricane. Nice uninformed, shameless, attempt to make it all about politics though. Jeez.

They did announce up front that no weapons would be allowed in the shelters.

So you already knew the answer to your own question. Feel free to start another 5 page "Your thread is here" diatribe to explain it to us. "Respectfully" of course.......

Alot of the normally homeless people downright refuse to come out from under the bridge,or out of the woods, and be taken to a homeless shelter.
When asked why,the #1 reason is that it is unsafe. They feel that al least "out there" they can protect themselves. --- SAWMAN

Naw. Retirement home != general population. Seriously man.

You knew you were out of line when you edited your post from "Democratic" to "(D)".

If you cant stay on topic, maybe this isn't the place for you. Nobody's looking for a fight here.

Texas politicians in General failed under this storm. Whether Republican or Democratic they all failed. Days before Harvey came ashore The National Hurricane Center was forecasting Harvey to stall over SE Texas when it came ashore and meander for days. The forecast stated the steering currents were going to totally break down and Harvey was just going to meander over SE Texas, places East (Houston) of the center would see the greatest rainfall rates. This was the forecast at least 3 days before Harvey made landfall. The said there could be widespread areas with 30+ inches of rain with some areas seeing over 50 inches. This was forecasted for areas like Houston and points East who made no evacations ahead of time. Instead of evacuating the high risk areas and places like Nursing homes at high risk for flooding the did nothing. Houston and other areas of SE Texas floods easy with all it's rivers and reservoirs and politicians of the towns that flooded new that and did nothing.

The polits are to blame for the failure to plan proper drainage for the city...
but NOBODY expected the storm to jump from Tropical Storm to Cat 4...
oh, wait, there was ONE GUY...

As soon as Jim Cantorre leaves the Center going somewhere, take a note.
That rascal ONLY goes out to Cat 3 or higher storms. And wherever he is,
is the most likely spot it's going to hit the hardest. Know That.
If Cantorre sets up a spot in/near your town, GET OUT!

A tropical storm is usually what we Floridians call a good whizzer...
they usually just bring a lotta rain & some wind, but nothing that
you wouldn't see during a regular thunderstorm, it's just Bigger.
Cat 1 is a slightly bigger version of that with a few more tornadoes.
Cat 2 is where all the jokers with woodframe houses and on flood zones
    need to RUN.
Cat 3 or bigger, GET OUT and go northwest about 400 miles for a few days.

The Really Important Thing about Hurricanes, is that if you live on the coast,
& if you HAVE NOT GOT A BUG-OUT STORM LOCATION, you've already failed.
Go see the relatives in Tennessee or Arkansas or Oklahoma...
Buy a cabin in the woods far far away...with a bomb shelter under it.

Or at least have a dang RV/camper trailer so you can didi mau the bleep on out
and go whichever direction you feel like.

It ain't rocket science, but ya gotta be prepared, just like anything else!
