Just picked up a great condition High Standard Supermatic Citation. Are there any High Standard Experts in the Group? Need some advice on ammo for it; HV or Std. velocity?

I've only had one High Standard. That doesn't make me an expert.
However, based on my experience with that and other target .22 pistols, I think it will probably shoot standard velocity best.
I'd try CCI standard (blue box) or Federal AutoMatch first.
Maybe put a drop of oil on the top round in the magazine to improve function.
If it doesn't shoot one of those in an inch at 25 yds, maybe try a cheaper grade of standard velocity Aguila or Eley.
You may need to buy a backup spring and clip links out of it to get reliability where you want it.

They're meant to have a steady diet of Standard,
as High Velo didn't exist way back then.

Also not a bad idea to replace springs, Wolff Springs
and J&P springs both carry good ones to choose from.
It's a 50+ year old pistol, after all, see how springy
you are after 50 years ;)

There is also a specific HS Forum that can detail the
living daylights out of your pistol, on RFC...
and John Stimson's Pages give a lot of detailed info,
including the Manuals and a serial number searcher.
    http://www.histandard.info/

    But the most important thing...

Thanks for the info folks. I've been a SERIOUS shooter for 50 plus years, but have started shooting smallbore and rimfire again due to minor health problems ( can't do the heavy recoil). most of the forums online are about evenly divided as to the issue of
std. velocity versus high velocity stuff. I have a HS Flite King in .22 short which I only shoot rarely, and in that it is an alloy frame and aluminum slide, it
is restricted to std. velocity rounds. based on info here and online (and the fact that standard velocity (subsonic) ammo is more accurate), I
will use Federal Gold medal, CCI Green tag, ect. in the Citation and save the Stinges, Velocitors, and CCI Copper stuff in my Ruger 22/45 and 10-22's. I'll post pics of my favorite 22 toys Monday.

If it runs on standard velocity why take a chance with high velocity, if you're only shooting paper I can't see any advantage to using high velocity.

FLT: Only reason I would consider utilizing HV in any of my target guns, would be the fact that I have a TON of assorted .22 HV ammo, and only a couple of bricks of high end target grade stuff. Thanks for the input.

Back when I was shooting bull's-eye Had a couple of H-S used St. V the HV would cause slide bounce back and would cause feeding problem's . And work the slide to hard. May can get a heavier recoil spring. Just my 5 cents jj

Thanks oneshot. I have a full set of Wolff springs coming tomorrow. I think I will stick with the std. Velocity stuff. These old (m106) citations are to pretty to abuse. Thanks for the reply.

Fishingjean: This is just my second High Standard. Beautiful guns. I have a Flight King in .22 short and the 106 Supermatic Citation is the fluted barrel 7 1/2" in 98% condition. Wouldn't mind finding a couple more. Thanks for the reply.

The HV would go perfectly in a Marlin 795 or Marlin 60 ;)
The 795 has 25-rd mags available thru Promag, good stuff :)
And you can pimp the heck outta them!

Finally remembered to post pic of the new Supermatic Citation M106; It's a real Hamden Ct. edition. I have a few more 22's also. HS3.png Rugers.png SigflitekingAMT.png SigflitekingAMT.png

AMT Automag II in .22WMR as well, right? :D

If you enjoy that, you'd probably love a Keltec PMR-30 :)

Only have one Hi-Standard at the moment...
    totally my favorite .22LR pistol!
    It's Model B from 1939, born-on date confirmed
    by John Stimson, Hi-Standard Archivist.

Another fun option is the Fiala Carbine Kit...forerunner
of the Beretta Neos Carbine Kit :)
All of that stuff can be carefully modified to fit
    a Hi-Standard of the Letter Series...but please,
only do that to a Beater that's lost it's collector's value.

We have a PMR 30 in the family. Love to shoot it, but it burns up that expensive 22magnum stuff pretty quick. The really old High Standard pistols are getting near impossible to find. I just found a 4.5" barrel for my Flite King this week. Nice little gun, but nowhere near as nice as the Citation.

That B model is beautiful. Is that Citation a M107 with the "space-gun" barrel? I am negotiating on an original compensator/stabilizer for my M106 Citation.

The Specialty Pawn indoor gun range on Hwy 29 in Pensacola had three
about 3 weeks ago...they'd had one Supermatic for awhile now.

Uber's Lock & Gun usually has one or two on hand...always worth a call ;)
