Who is old enough (besides me and Jerry) to remember when you could buy guns at:
    1.Western Auto
    2. J.C. Higgins
    3.Penny's Hardware
    4.K - Mart
When you could by ammo at:
    1.Rexall Drugs
    2.Walgreens
    3.Most any hardware store
And all this if you could simply lay your money on the counter.
Remember when you could take your gun to school and leave it in your car,in full view,in the parking lot ?? --- SAWMAN

remember western auto, kmart and pennys, never heard of jc Higgins, didn't have them where I grew up..

the local real hardware store carried everything from nails to fish hooks, and ammo....an old fashioned hardware store has a very unique smell, comes from fertilizer, wood and dirt...

remember pickup trucks with rifle racks too

As recently as 96, Payless Drugs had a sporting goods section which included firearms and ammo. H&R revolvers to Kimber 1911s, SKS's and Ruger 1022's were 50 deep for big sale days and all the standard brands and calibers. Only AR/AK were missing due to the 94 Ban.

It was also common out West to go in a small town grocery store and find "dead" glass top freezers with a padlock and full of handguns while long guns were on a wall with fishing poles. We can only hope that still exists somewhere today.

I also remember Mail Order gun adds in Boys Life and Popular Mechanics and the biggies Sears & Roebuck and Montgomery Wards catalogs.
The memories are fresh but the calender can be cruel. Lol

I graduated from high school in 1996 and I can't remember a day where the 12 gauge or Speedmaster 552 wasn't in the back window of my truck. That wasn't THAT long ago. Gotta suck to be a teen these days hopefully it will make full circle again by the time my daughter gets older. She turned 2 today
