    Probably because the case will stretch and the head will push against the shield causing a bind

    This "setback" problem has also surface with the mild taper on the .17HMR in revolvers. Keeping cyclinders clean and lightly lubricated to avoid this problem. The semi auto pistols eject cases so there is no set back problem. Modern .357 Sig works quite well.
