I have a Rem 870 with an 18" barrel. I need a mag extension tube that uses
the original screw on type cap. Those extensions I've found screw on to the
original factory tube and have an unthreaded blunt end. Who can help?

    THX,
    Owen

Maybe I can help. I have an 870 Express 20ga with an 18 1/2" barrel and have been looking at extensions. What is the gauge, year of production (older 20's are on 12ga frames), and is it an express ? Are you looking for one because you have the dimples in the tube, have a spring issue, etc. I need additional info to help you find the right one that you want that will fit.

    Brasshog,
Thanks for the note. I inherited the 12 GA 870 from my dad. It dates to the late 70s.
Not familiar with dimples in the tube, express, or prod. date. Mt came with a 26: barrel. My
goal is to make it a home defense gun. I have an 18" barrel and want an extension to raise
mag. capacity. Also want the ext threaded at the front to accept on of the lasers at then end.

    Thanks,
    Owen

Okay, I think I understand what you're saying. You are wanting a screw-on extension tube that is female (inside) threaded on bottom-end, and male (outside) threaded on the top-end so the original magazine cap can be used.

Run it by Oneshot, I'm sure he can thread the top-end on your extension tube for you.

    OR

This one "Looks" threaded on both ends.

Thanks for the responses. The TacStar extension I have is not threaded on the outer end. Rather it is capped from the factory. I'll see if there are any different examples at the gun show tomorrow. I appreciate all the input..................Owen

I like your idea of being able to remove the spring from the top with out having to remove the tube. the cost is a little high to do it . I have been looking in to doing one, the problem is a tube to do it is about 40 plus dollar's that I have found, The cheapest I have found is about 25.00 with one end already having the end on it to fix the main tube, then will have to make the other end to fix the top part of the tube. I have did something like this for a repair of a SG one time. May start doing one this week on one of the tubes I have on a SG that I have one on. Will try and post some Pict. when I get it done. JUst my 5 cents

Thanks so much for the response. My thought was to modify a commercially available
mag tube extension. I don't have your fabrication skills. If you can build one from
tubing that threads to the existing magazine and also accepts a factory cap, I'm very
interested. The barrel is 18", so I don't want it to protrude any farther.

    Thanks,
    Owen

That's what I going to do, will have to make a end to go on the tube , I think the tube is to thin to thread on the end, but will be finding out. jj

Started this project last night, see if this is what your talking about. Made this from the chamber end of a 1943 M-1 barrel. Got some Pict. of this being made, Did a piece of Mag tube also , was able to get threads on it. it is thin. doing it on a lathe, the factory use's a die, you can control your cut better. this a prototype will be better on the next one, but it works. Just my 5 cents jj

I would never have thought of using a Garand barrel ! Hope it was shot out! How many 12GA round does it hold. Looks long, will it protrude past my 18" barrel? THX, Owen

That is off of my 22 '' 1100 barrel. you will need to have tube to long and cut it back to where you need it. The M-1 barrel came off of a drill rifle, some on give to me. Just my 5 cents jj
