Does anyone know how to determine the age of an SKS? I have recently picked up a Norinco SKS and was doing some research on the age and because the year of manufacture is not stamped on an SKS I'm finding it hard to determine. I have found some sites that try to explain how to determine the date but either they are very confusing, vague or someones opinion. Any help would be much appreciated.

From what I have read so far this is what I've gathered. Because my SKS has the "26" inside the triangle it was made at the Jianshe Arsenal and is as new at 1980 as that's when they stopped manufacture at the Jianshe Arsenal. Also, because it has 3 Chinese characters nest to the "26" it was made as early as 1963 because that's when they started stamping the characters on the receivers. So using that logic my SKS is between 1963 and 1980. I also read that if you add the first digit of the serial number to 1956 on serial numbered guns 1,000,000 or more this will give you the year of manufacture provided it is a Norinco SKS. I have not done this yet as I'm at work and cant remember the serial number but plan on doing it when I get home.

    Any thoughts?
