*So the other day went to the gun store by my house and took a look at a KSG (first time). it actually seemed like a pretty awesome Shotgun. however I also know about the DP-12 and a few others. I am leaning towards possibly a KSG because the price is a bit better nd I like the "select feature". What are your thoughts on these and what would you recommend? I haven't been able to shoot any of them.

Go to the thread "my new favorite shotgun". There are some good pictures of a guys hand after using a ksg. I would hate to be him.

LOL... I mean its not funny. But yes I have seen those and its only a few reports of that happening because the bottom rail can break off with a VFG attached... but you can buy a stronger metal rail also the KSG comes with a hand stop that you should attach to stop your hand from getting in front of the barrel.

I held a DP-12 at the Crestview gun show, it was much wider than my KSG. About like holding a 4"x4". Too much for me but if you're over 6' it'd probably be fine. Seemed to be a quality product. I think it was Jay's who had it for sale but I'm not sure.

Been running a ksg for a few months, so far no issue's whatsoever. Not a picky eater, run everything from slugs to the cheapest bird shot I can find for shooting mocs. It is the ultimate moc gun (hehehe) with an Eotech on top
Not gonna be good to get mud in it (my 870 Marine Magnum runs no matter what) but its been reliable so far.
If I have a gripe, its that the top rail can flex shooting magnum slugs, I would think over a matter of time things could potentially work loose, but I'm gonna pull it and locktight everything. they could have done more to stiffen it up without adding a lot of coin to the cost. Seems like a lot of not thinking about what your doing to shoot your hand off.

As a lefty I love it, fully ambidextrous and easy to maneuver. The high capacity is a nice bonus. I was going to get a dedicated left handed shotgun, either a Mossberg or Remington. But then I shot a KSG at Jay's and figured why not? All members of my family can shoot it and it does not take up much space. I added a steel picatinny rail that mounts at four points on the factory picatinny rail, an aluminum vertical grip that mounts with two points and an extended muzzle choke. Makes for a nice compact weapon that fits in a nice cubby hole in my RV perfectly.

Well I bought the KSG and I have to say I do like it so far. Haven't shot to much through the it yet but I am liking it.

I consider both as Range toys or something to be employed in non-harsh conditions for short duration. They are not equal to a basic 870 in reliability but have gotten somewhat better. Tactical and combat reloading is very awkward and takes more time per round, if you need to watch the reload to get it right, your not watching the threat. You can't just drop a round in the receiver. Sure, initial load is impressive, compact only in length. Heavy even with light/flexable(bad) parts. KSG prices have dropped to around $750.

People say the compactness is perfect for close quarters work. However, close quarters also means the shot pattern will be very small. In turn, using a shotgun because "you can't miss" is a fallacy. You need to decide if pistol or carbine with 15+ or 30 in a mag with a faster reload serves the CQ mission better for your application. I only see door breaching as a mission for a tactical shotgun.
