I always picture a huge buck coming out and getting ready , aim, and then " Hey Buddy have you seen anything yet?" and the buck runs off into the brush.

Thanks Guys, i keep seeing them in the SGS's and think, OK ill get some, then I think about it and think, Nah, I don't need em.
Kinda like what I'm seeing here.
I can see an "in case of emergency" use when I'm out of cell range, but thats about it.

9 times out of 10, when I am hunting Blackwater, I don't have cell service. So when I'm with a buddy, it's radios or no communication at all. In the mornings it's nice to be able to coordinate if one of us is climbing down or not. Sometimes, one of us will be seeing deer and the other will not etc... So of course, the other does not want to climb down while seeing deer.

I always have my radios with me out there.

Heard Motorola was best, bought a pair and one is nothing but static. I have a set of 4 Midlands but they all need batteries so I can't comment on that brand.

This if I were to use radios but you still have to speak.

a plan, a compass, hand signals, line of sight if possible, when near open areas..all are better than noise...

the old days, animal calls were used, but no one knows how to do that anymore.

When out of cell range it would be nice to be able to communicate, especially if someone got hurt, needed help with a pull out or tracking. Not so interested in chit chat, but would like to know which ones work best. I don't believe the 50, 38, 18 mile range as advertised. i to 2 miles is all I wold need.
Who knows which one works best in thickets, and tall oak/pines?

I have hunted the blackwater swamp and private land around that for 30 years and since cell phones, i've always had signal from the repeaters around Wilcox thru hwy90 exit in fl.

my cell service has been with at&t since 2003, so that's about 1/2 the time i've been out there.

I think its just a cell provider problem.

You're right, its lack of signal from the cell towers. Thats why I'm looking for moderately priced two-way radios that work. Just trying to hear who uses them and what brand they like, and range of the units.

Longer ranges are legit with certain radios, they like cell phones use towers to relay the signal but it requires FCC licensing to use them - although you can buy the units without the license. I have the same problem - I have AT&T and have had them since the time when they were first AT&T but no signal or spotty depending on the day. I plan on trying some Retevis 888 long range units next time we go out to the camp. I bought them for my son to help keep track of his kids...he said he had some they used at work and they are great.
