Mundus= German Sur Name, Stahl= Steel. Could be a Mfg of/or type of steel. German steel/barrels does not mean its 100% german produces firearm. Due ot a couple wars, destroyed factories, records and craftsman; European records are very incomplete. 16 ga. But what is the chamber length? Surely SXS (side by side) is not marked on it. Is their any other markings anywhere?

I don't know if you hit this site (Link) There is a lot mor info if you go to the home page. You may need to compare component parts for matching contour.

Go to link, find Mundus tells actual company name. Note it is a list for Damascus barrels. There are SAFETY RESTRICTIONS you need to follow if you are considering firing.

Go to link, find :François DUMOULIN & compagnie. You will find a matching action and buttstock from what I see. It would be common war time practice to eliminate non essential work including some markings. You can take these basics and research further and possibly find more info on your exact Belgium made firearm.

Lots of markings, and there is the bow and arrow in a circle , smart idea with the white powder, make reading easy.

Looks like everybody including the janitor added their own proof mark! Lol. Pretty common though. I had a after thought, you may need to look at foundry proof marks also.

    Good luck with your research.

first off i wanted to thank yall again for peoviding all the feedback and leading me in the right direction

in case you were wondering,i posted some pics over on shotgunworld because i couldnt figure out the manufacture date or manufacturer, but from what they said it seems like it was manufactured in either 28 or 31 by Dumoulin, was probly made for a german dealer, and my grandpaw more than likely brought it back with him after WWII which seems correct because i vaguely remember hearing that he brought it back with him

they valued it as not worth much and not anything particularly special...

but hell what do they know,., as far as im concerned its priceless and irreplaceable :thumb:
