I have seen discussions about short barreled rifles and the tax stamp required to own one. Does the same process apply to a short barreled shotguns? If you had a stamp could you have a short barreled shotgun.

You can have short barrel shotguns. They require a $5.00 tax stamp, as they are considered AOW.

    Some true, some not true.
AOW Transfers are $5. (red stamp)
    If you Form 1 a AOW it's still $200.

For an SBS it's $200 either way.

AOW does not equal SBS in any way shape or form. 2 completely different things.

OP Good cheap alternative is get you a pistol grip only shotgun and put a birdhead grip on it.
You can have a 14" barrel as long as you stay over 26" overall length. Just don't put a stock on it designed to be fired from the shoulder.
Ill have one of these for sale tomorrow at my yard sale.
    Tons of info...

This is correct. You can own a SBS after completing the same Form 1 process as a SBR.

    I never said he couldn't.

Sorry, did not mean to imply that you said he couldn't. That's why I said "This is correct".

I was answering his original post; "If you had a stamp could you have a short barreled shotgun."

Donr, how many will that SBS hold in the mag tube?

It's a standard 870 mag tube so it's 4+1. This one started out as a mid 60s Wingmaster I picked up for $150. The furniture was already on it and I did the barrel work myself so it's truly a low budget SBS. I would like to have a rem-choke installed just because I prefer improved cylinder over cylinder for the choke.

I guess I don't understand. I have a short barreled shot gun from Mark Serbu Arms in Tampa, Fl. I paid a $5.00 stamp. Please explain. Why would you want to do a form 1, if it costs $200.00.

You have an AOW and an AOW transfer tax is only $5. The tax cost to manufacture an AOW is $200. With an AOW stamp you can't put a shoulder stock on your AOW, but with a SBS stamp I can run a shoulder stock or a pistol grip.

Are you saying if I manufacture? I bought mine from the manufacturer, Mark Serbu. Does he have to pay the $200.00 per gun as a manufacturer? Thanks.

Yea, if you manufacture on a form1 you have to pay the $200. Business manufacturers like Serbu pay an annual special occupational tax as part of their FFL and manufacturing licensing.

I see. Well, I appreciate your clearing that up for me. Obviously, earlier I spoke too soon. I'll try to hold my mouth, next time. Thanks you Don, for your quick responses.
