Don't trust the link, call him. Also check Styx River shooting range.
FWIW, and if you've never used it, Trailboss loads are kinda lame. H110 yields excellent results, especially with the 300gr hornady bullets.

What you using the trail boss for? Subsonic loads?Personalty I find trail boss to expensive. I have very good results with 700x for subs and Like Dan1612 said you can't go wrong with H110.

Trail boss in a 500 S&W makes for puppy fart loads. Fun at first, but completely off from what a 500 is meant to do.

Thanks for the great info. I will look into 700x and H110. Yes he wants to shoot sub sonic. He wants to cast 440 grain. Bullets and the trail boss would put him in the under 700 fps. He wants to find a more affordable way to shoot, instead of the cost of factory ammo, puppy farts included.

I'm not finding any load data for H110 under the 440 cast data. It is listed in the 500 grain jacketed bullet info, but the fps is back up in the 1400 which would be too much for cast 440 wouldn't it? Will the psi be to high at 51900. The harness for cast would be hard to reach. Trail boss tops out at 21200 psi at 10 grains. 7 grains would put him around 15000 psi so an 18 bhn should be easy to achieve. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

This gentleman is "trying to do some low fps loading".

CAUTION: NEVER EVER use H110 for reduced loads.

I have used Trail Boss when reloading for my NEF Handi Rifle chambered in 500S&W Mag. I have been able to get the 370gr Cast Performance bullets to <900fps quite easily using 11.0grs. I could have went quite a bit lower also. I suspect to around 700fps.

Make sure to follow the formula for Trail Boss on the Hodgdon site. NEVER try to use too much. That is not what Trail Boss is designed for. There is nothing else like Trail Boss in the world of reloading. I have used it in 45-70,45-90Express,454Casull,500S&W,and a few others. Works great. --- SAWMAN

My 440s were cast by Larry, and I got the load data from him. He's REALLY worth a visit or a call regarding the subject.

Thanks Sawman. That's where I'm at. I just can't find any of the Trail boss powder. I'm looking at 7 grains., 643 fps and 15000 psi. I figure it should be something close to a 45 acp recoil. It's for my father-in-law, he has the pistol. He has the grizzly killer rounds, he just wants to shoot more often then just when I get him a box of ammo on his birthday. Any info on the Trail boss would be great

Makes sense, it's significantly less than 45acp recoil. More like 25acp even at max load, due to the sheer weight of the thing, it's fun for sure.

99 I to have found I could reach my velocity with Hi-Skor 700X ,,,and had less stress on my 9mm brass and 45acp brass 38sp, would last longer..

5.5 grains of Trail Boss under a 250 grain cowboy bullet is a pure joy to shoot in .45 Colt. As to cast bullets, size and fit are far more important than BHN. You can run 1700-1800 fps with 10-12BHN if you size them properly (.001 over bore).
