    Personally,
That's what seperates the men: Adrenaline, emotions, a dynamic and constantly changing environment, rules, regulations, laws, procedures, fear for your life, fear for another's life, riskntonoublicnsgtey, responsibility, accountability, every move and action under constant public scrutiny..... If you can't handle it, and remain profesional, go drive a truck rent a center.

As others have said, they are not drafted. They chose this line of work. If they can't handle it, can't keep they're composure, and are taking it out on suspects they need to be removed. Voluntarily or otherwise.

Btw that's the whole point people are trying to make: there hasn't been an increase in incidents, it's always been this way. People are just getting fed up with it.

It's also the first time in history that virtually everyone over the age of 8 has a camera with them at all times. Until recent years it was always an officer's word against a suspect's word. Cell phone cameras and officer body cameras are changing that dynamic.

Right. The days of shooting or beating someone, planting or otherwise falsifying evidence, and then committing perjury by lying about it in a sworn police report are going to be getting fewer and fewer.

Ah yes, I remember those guys.

Thats the worst part-- when abusive police officers reach the point that it simply is no longer tolerable by their supervisors and colleagues, they are merely allowed to resign and start all over with the abuse in a new location, over, and over, and over.

    Its a culture.

    That didnt take long

San Bernardino County to pay $650,000 to suspected horse thief beaten by deputies, admits no wrongdoing

And business continues as usual. Taxpayer funds are used to make the problem go away and the police continue doing what they do. I know the feds and Sheriff are investigating but I think we've already seen time and time again the outcomes of these "investigations". Better to pay these settlements out of police funds rather than general funds. Then we might see some change.

Well now we know how the guy got his neck broken in the police van. It even has a name:

    "nickel rides"

BALTIMORE – No video captured what happened to Freddie Gray inside the police van where officers heaved him into a metal compartment after pinning him to a sidewalk. The cause of his fatal spine injury has not been revealed.

But a troubling detail emerged as hundreds of protesters converged on City Hall again Thursday: He was not only handcuffed and put in leg irons, but left without a seat belt during his trip to the station.

Unbelted detainees have been paralyzed and even killed by rough rides in police vans." It even has a name: "nickel rides," referring to cheap amusement park thrills.

Police brutality against prisoners being transported was addressed just six months ago in a plan released by Baltimore officials to reduce this misconduct. Department rules updated nine days before Gray's arrest clearly state that all detainees shall be strapped in by seat belts or "other authorized restraining devices" for their own safety after being arrested.

Gray was not belted in, said attorney Michael Davey, who represents at least one of the officers under investigation.

Commissioner Anthony Batts said there are no circumstances under which a prisoner should not be wearing a seatbelt during transport.

But if it happened on the way to the station, it wouldn't be the first such injury in Baltimore: Dondi Johnson died of a fractured spine in 2005 after he was arrested for urinating in public and transported without a seat belt, with his hands cuffed behind his back.

"We argued they gave him what we call a `rough ride,"' at high speed with hard cornering, said Attorney Kerry D. Staton. "He was thrown from one seat into the opposite wall, and that's how he broke his neck."

Staton obtained a $7.4 million judgment for the family, later reduced to the legal cap of $200,000.

It also has happened in Philadelphia, where police in 2001 barred transportation of prisoners without padding or belts after The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the city had paid $2.3 million to settle lawsuits over intentionally rough rides, which permanently paralyzed two people.
"He wasn't wearing a seatbelt and that's part of our investigation," Batts told The Associated Press on Thursday. "It's our responsibility to make sure people are safely transported, especially if their hands are behind their back."

Funny how police departments all across the country know this technique, being as how its just a few bad apples and all.

Im still waiting on a good apple to come along, and turn one of these few bad apples in for abuse.

Oh wait, thats right one did:

    "Christopher Dorner"

    How'd that work out?

Well saved us a trial and cost of prison from a known drug dealer.

To begin with, you're so quick to hate, you've confused this case with the guy that got shot in the back while being held down by two other men (Oklahoma).

    That said:

The civil suit on this alone will be at least $5 million. More if they are too stupid to settle immediately without a trial. Triple it for a civil trial settlement. Plus the cost of presenting a defense.

Federal investigation? Lets call it $5 million. Feds dont do anything cheap.

    Internal investigation: $1 million

Costs of criminal trials, and I think this time, there will be some. This was just too blatant. 10 defendants? Call it $20 million

Round up to $35 million. All for picking up a guy that was ultimately charged with nothing more then carrying a pocketknife that turned out to be actually legal.

    Yep. What a bargain.

Whats even scarier is that you dont believe in the constitutionally protected right of a trial. You think its perfectly OK for cops to just kill people. Im sorry, but I dont understand that. Either you believe in the constitution, or you don't.

yeah let the criminals families get rich on the back of hard working people, litigation is out of control. Like the Boston bombers family the liberals are nothing but domestic terrorists trying to destroy America. I remember when a horse thief was caught he was hung on the spot.
