so I did some reloading testing today. All rounds fired at 100 yards with chrono at 10' from muzzle. They are all 5rd groupings. Enjoy!

    I used the following components:
    IMR 4064
    Federal LRP
LC 1x fired fully processed brass
    178AMAX
    COAL 2.800

I started out at 41.0gr and went up to 43.5gr. Here's the data I got.

    41.0
    2588fps
    2661
    2583
    2609
    2609

    41.5
    2629
    2609
    2619
Only fired 3 due to 2 rounds coming apart cause not enough crimp. Make sure to crimp enough!

    42.0
    2624, 2666,2650,2661,2661

    42.5
    2693,2693,2677,2693,2682

    43.0
    2682,2693,2693,2677,2721

    43.5
    2732,2704,2721,2704,2715

The following pics are in order from low to high for groupings. All orange dots are 1"(for reference)

I think I'm going to be going with the 43.0 or 43.5. I might try to play with a few tenths both plus and minus. Or I may just leave it. I don't know yet! I'm not shooting precision matches!

I tried some 168gn A'maxers in a M-1A, wasn't impressed. Had much better accuracy with the Matchkings.

Glad to see them working out for you. They are purrty bullets. I had the best accuracy with 40.5 gns 4064 for the 168s.

Not worried about recoil. Ive just always liked that caliber since I first got one when I was 5. And I just dont want to do 308 like everybody else..

I never thought of the 243Win as an overbore chambering although it will shoot some bullets pretty fast. Check out how fast it will launch a 58gr.

If you will be reloading for a single shot there are some different things to consider than if you were reloading for a semi, bolt,or lever gun. Many more and (IMO) better possibilities.

The 243 is a real killer and will quite easily take any deer or hog you will find in NW Fla. Some of the better made bolt guns are real tack drivers.

There are some really good hunting bullets made for this bore size gun, especially the NosParts and the Barnes TSX/TTSX. --- SAWMAN

I will eventually be reloading for a left handed Rem 700 SPS 243 with a 26" bull barrel. I want to test my first reloads out of the cheap but strong single shot. I bought a Hi Point to test my first pistol reloads out of to make sure I wouldnt damage my more expensive firearms.

I've seen people cooking 105gr bullets out of a 24"barrel at 3150fps. Only 6.5mils of drop out to 1000 yards. That's crazy fast. Still supersonic to 1500 yards. I know not probably distance you will be shooting, but it's amazing!

No Frank, I'm in Florida. I was saying when I used to live up that way, my friend used to have a 243 and reloaded for it. Dang Frank, you take your meds today? LMAO!
