I think the 2 biggest most common differences are the height over bore and additional redundant safeties of the Springfield. Which may or may not be factors to the individual shooter. Another excellent option to consider would be the M&P
M&P9C. I hate the grip angle on the Glock and the Hummer looking tire thread pattern on the XDM. Another plus, if you can operate a thumb safety, it's available. JMO.
Another thing to consider is Glock has a lot more aftermarket accessories available and doing upgrades like trigger work is way cheaper and easy to do if you know how to use youtube.
you need to rent and try the 2 or three you want to consider, none of us can tell what is right for you, your grip and shooting skills or fit of the gun...many ranges offer this service. Good luck
Full sizes maybe, I carry a 23. And I aint no big guy by any stretch of even my imagination! I have never had any problems carrying it. Its all in the Holster.
I feel like the only real argument is if your comfortable with glocks safety features and how naturally it points.
Some people prefer the shallower grip angle, I personally like the glocks but I'm not hot on the only "oops bang" prevention is a trigger lever. But I'm in the minority. I think differences in how the triggers feel and available upgrades are gonna be lost on the vast majority of shooters when pairs are fired at speed from a holster.
I say go look at both side by side an even the M&P. Close your eyes and point from pistols from the chest and see which one naturally points for you. See if you can actually see down the sights. Then get that one. They are all great pistols can't go wrong with any of them.
That's been my experience as well. I don't notice the difference in width nearly as much as I do weight. Been carrying a Glock 41 IWB the last 3 months and it's not as bad as one might think.
