This round any good for deer/hogs? Got a guy that wants to trade his upper for one of mine in 5.56. Ammo pretty common? What kind of range am I looking at with the 300? Sorry if stupid questions but I have never used the caliber.

Also, his upper and barrel are made by cmmg. Any good? Never used any of their stuff. 'Preciate yas..

I like the 300 Blackout and own several. I A-S-S-U-M-E it has a 16" bbl. CMMG is fine, but not considered Top Tier among many. I would have no problem owning CMMG and own one of their AR .22lr kits and bbl. With 125gr expanding bullets fired at supersonic velocity, it's good for 200yd for big game (deer/hog). At longer ranges, the bullets will run out of velocity to expand properly and the trajectory/bullet drop will be greater. Shorter barrels will have less range due to lower velocity. The farthest I've killed a deer was 187yd with the 300BLK. Of the 11 deer taken, only once did the bullet fail to exit the deer, and that one went through the neck, lung, stomach and stopped at the belly hide. I've taken 6 hogs with the cartridge. On the 2 boars, the bullet failed to fully penetrate the body (but other calibers may have failed to fully penetrate the largest one anyway due to the thickness of the shield), but the hogs died. On the 4 sows, the bullets fully penetrated the body and exited. I reload, so I can't comment on factory ammo availability; perhaps others can.

Picked up some from Academy the other day. Only had one version to choose from, but at least they had some on the shelf! Ozark Ordnance LLC is the place to go to buy in bulk. Much cheaper that way, unless you're going to reload. If you want subs, Nate has a few left....lol

I'll vouch for Ozark. They're the cheapest and by far the best accuracy I've seen for reloads. Approx 1.5" at 100 vs 4-6" for pnw and freedom munitions 147gr.

Just make sure you choose the right bullet for the job. The 300 works well in its niche.

Sub's can be had for less than a $1 a rd but if you're not suppressed, I wouldn't bother with those. 220gr sub isn't much better than a 45acp.

300 Blackout great round. Personally with the energy I wouldn't try shooting an animal past 200 yards. Kind of have the same ballistics as the 7.62X39

So if my Google fu is on, all I need to do is strap on the 300 upper and go right? Uses the same mags and bolt as 556?

This will strictly be a hunting gun, I have other ARs for the fun stuff. Anyone recommend a good factory round for hunting?

Look for the Barnes brand. Box sez ...."Barnes VOR-TX". "300AAC BLACKOUT 110gr TAC-TX" This ammo uses the bullet shown above.

The muzz vel is 2350fps. The box end sez ... "BB300AAC1 ... 21548" This factory ammo is THE! real killer in the 300BLK.

These are somewhat hard to find but can be had on the internet. Kinda expensive, but not a plinker .... a hunter. --- SAWMAN
