BREAKING: Possible Live Military Explosive Found At Business Near Ensley Walmart

BREAKING NEWS — A possible live military ordnance was discovered at a business on Hood Drive this afternoon. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office are on scene awaiting for a military explosive ordinance disposal team to respond to dispose of the item.

The area has been evacuated and there may be traffic delays in the area of Hood Drive and North Palafox (near the Ensley Walmart).

More details will be posted as they become available.

I'm betting someone brought something in and Dan called the law. He's told me about some of the weird crap people bring in. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if some idiot found something and thought Dan would be interested in it.

Oh, forgot to add: if he has been accused of something ill throw some bucks in for bail too.

I'm glad I took my blood pressure pill today. I would like to say much ado about nothing, but I really don't know at this point. It all started with a very old rusty 5" howitzer shell I found at a garage sale about 6-7 months ago, a hole in the base and split up the side where the projectile was shoved into it way too far from dropping it or something,but it was cool, looked like a dummy shell made up by someone and burried for a long time or drug out of the ocean, rusty, crusty and oviouslly empty. Well a good intentioned gentleman showed interest in it, but wanted to research it to see if it was safe (retired marine pilot) who saw stuff like this blow and kill before, so he took a pic and emailed it to some who I assume emailed it to ATF. He then called and told me to keep away from it and the bomb squad was enroute. ""WHAT"" Well thats when all hell broke loose and the whole alphabet showed up and cleared the block. I said "I ain't payin for this!" lol, WOW it was handled very well by our local LEO and affilates, Thank GOD for cool heads and professional handleing of the matter, as I expected it to go south in a hurry, eyeballing each new arivial to see if he was the "Bad Cop". Thankfully he did not show, all was very well handled and what I thought was EXTREME OVERKILL until they said it was REAL, yes I know it is real but is it LIVE? "It's possible, We think so, we really won't know for sure until we blow it." Then 4 hours later aprox 12 assorted vehicles exit with lights and sirens, escorted off to I10 back to Eglin. what a day. I guess the guy who I thought was crazy is really a Hero, and possiblly save a life or 20 today. Thank you stranger! and a BIG THANKS to our EOD team from Eglin. They deserve every penny they make, and more.

Well if you put it like that? I guess so, I would have bet my life it was inert or a dummy, and where a normal primer would be was a hole like it was missing? and the shell was empty for sure. Little did I know the hole was where a wire timer thingy went and the primer was on the head? I learned alot today. Stick to my small arms ammunition. If its got a metal head ,and on the big stuff, you could end up dead! I'd like to say I won't make that mistake again, but I know myself all too well.
